Re: GT .... a history ...
It was early 2009 when a group of young men (and RMD) became seriously worried about the fragmentation and fraying of the tightly knit GAA fabric on the internet. There was also a token woman involved (see EU Directive 2398/10 OJ). The cohesion delivered by Davitt and Co was being undermined by a salacious and unsavoury element marauding across cyberspace with all the subtlety of a Mick Lyons tackle. Where once there was harmony there was now rank rancour as a hoard of invisible keyboard miscreants launched a tirade of torrid attacks and spat a salvo of salivating spittle into the eye of the parochial bonhomie that was Gaelic games. Counties were debased and defaced and defecated upon from a great height. If this was not enough it was even rubbed in.
Counties like Mayo with their rich history of underachievementarianism became the faux kings. Their word became gospel in the most blasphemous manner imaginable. They sought to rewrite history. But they were not alone. For when men do not have to stand up – but rather can sit down – and when they are not held to account – other than an account with eircom – they can become bold. And loud, and vexatious. The new tribe also arrived from the North. Spouting forth like gushing fountains when even the gargling white elephant of Anna Livia was older and had more class.
The four horsemen of the apocalypse and the token woman (tw) had enough. Banality was not their thing and they sought to rid the ethereal and mystical world of GAA fora from this curse. Armed only with cheap pcs from Lidl and Aldi they arranged a now famous meeting in Haze Hotel – so called for the smoke that lingered within – oblivious to forced regulation. A huge problem at the fateful meeting was the fact that the men were unknown to each other – as was tw. The meeting nearly never happened when the first arrival who shall remain nameless (we shall just call him Bocerty) said to the receptionist that he was here to see a few men he met on the internet. After some red faces (as distinct from ar5es) and a prolonged explanation to the vice squad the meeting was allowed to continue. The participants had all arranged to wear cowboy hats in order to recognise each other and it was some time before they were able to estrange and differentiate themselves from the attending hen party from Rochdale.
And so a plan was hatched that night to save the GAA for internet users. To launch a site where quality would be king, where boorishness would be banished, where WUMS would be outwumbered, where integrity and respect would replace vaudevillian vulgarity and venal vexation. A place where comely maidens could dance at the keyboards.
And so into this world came GAATipster. The delivery was uncomplicated and the midwife gave GAAFan a slap on the ar5e and said ‘get on with it’ – he still talks about it (the slap). On the night she set sail ships horns were sounded in every harbour – but only because it was foggy. The early days were exciting and energetic. And like a baby deer trying to stand for the first time GT went on its ar5e more than once. But as was the case over two thousand years ago the disciples came, and they listened, and they participated. And it was good. And sometimes it was very good. And the quality was top notch. And the crack and the banter. One poster memorably opined that it was almost better than s*x and better still you could do it alone. Heady days indeed …..
(to be continued)

Nice one Jayo! An intriguing tale of stetsons and taking a stand against wummery. I presume it is all 100% true, yes? Have we got a release date for the next installment for the story?

It is 100% true RG2K9. We are currently in the middle of selling the story to Warner for a small fee as they believe it has the potential to better the social network blockbuster and changing the name of the website is in the terms of the contract.
Re: GT .... a history ...
There are a number of issues here which will be outlined via solicitors letter. Copyright of the work 'GT - the hidden years' and 'GT - the lost years' as well as 'GT - my part in its downfall' and 'GT and the neo-Communist agenda' are all trademarked under the auspices of Jason Herbert Cluxton III Cinematic Enterprises.
The outline plot and history here are the subject of frantic and very private discussion between Rupert Murdoch Enterprises and a number of phone hackers.
I reserve my right to continue this story subject to the vagaries of contractual obligations and the *WIBMA clause.
* (whether I'll bother my arxe)

Re: GT .... a history ...
And so the proprietors sought to bring good word to the masses. Not for GT the salacious sensationalism of the red tops. This was to be quality in all its finery. No room for wummery or crackpotism.
So the quality ensued. But as in all things where quality is king the numbers suffered. Mensa is a small organisation that does not suffer fools gladly - GT became the GAA fora Mensa. But still they came and posted -in their relatively small numbers - all the time awaiting the bright star in the East or the worldwide Q mark of quality which would bring the site to new heights. It never came.
Some bristled at the ainm and the good burghers of GT changed it to the challenging title of globalgaa. In recent times. And she lives. Like a ten year old Opel on a cold winter's morning ... you wonder will she last the day - or will she get started at all. And she does .. sometimes stutteringly.
And she is full of good components. Some like chalk - some like cheese. Some Mercs - some Fiats. Some Dubs - some Tyronies!!!
But its not a bad little place. A place where battle can be had - and maybe should be had a little more - and a little more hostile like!!
But for meeting folk - even online - it has been a good experience and certainly better than having teeth pulled!
So - Loyal, RG, HG, Boxty, Moss, Puke, TC, Boc, RMD, GF, mullins, hip, Clash, BA, B&W, JS, MB, NSG, OMAR, RKF, WB, BE and others - cheers to you all. We are all different .. but we are all much alike too.
