New Hurling league set up for 2012
Well theyve brought out the new set up with only five rounds to be played, got to say i dont know what the gaa are playing at, county teams train all year for a potential 7 games, thats crazy.
We need at least 10 games a year per intercounty team in order to promote the game properly and give the players the competitiion theyve trained for.
Dont see why it couldnt have been an extra two teams in each section and the div 1 all one with the teams mixed into the two groups so you could have had 1b consisting of antrim, dublin, tipp, carlow, wexford, limerick and kerry.

Very disappointing. We'll be playing in basically a Christy Ring league. But these groups are based on this years league placings and we had a terrible league. Our aim has to be to achieve promotion next year and get into the top 12 in Ireland. This year has been very disappointing in term of Carlow hurling at all grades. Here's to a good 2012

Think yourselves and Kerry could have been included in any new div1, yous are working hard at underage and this is a set back of sorts although id have to fancy yous to be coming up, imagine the up roar if offaly or wexford and are to be relegated to that league yous are in, i see another revamp coming!

Like what was wrong with the old system? Only 1 thing, there needed to be 2 promotion spots and 2 relegation spots, now there's less games and the possibility of scoring difference being the difference of promotion and relegation.

Should have been two up two down but that would mean an extra two teams from the elite going to play in casement or dr cullen park, would never have done for the so called elite now would it!

Out of curiosity, yous would be probably the biggest team in the league, yous or limerick, so be interesting to hear just.

Personally i would have liked to have seen each divison reduced by one team leaving you with 7 in each division with two up and two down. Bring back semi finals as well. It would guarentee each team 6 games and there would be a serious threat of relegation as well
For arguements sake a division one of:
Kilkenny, Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Tipp, Galway
& Division 2 of:
Offaly, Wexford, Clare, Laois, Antrim, Down and Carlow
Top 4 in each group go into semifinals, 1 v 4 and 2 v 3, bottom two from each groupe relegated, the two finalists get promoted. With the old structure with the top two making the final and the bottom side relegated it ment that teams were often left with nothing to play for with 2 or 3 games to go, out of contention to make the final and no real threat of relegation. With this I think that every team in Division 1 would go into the league with the ambition of at least making the semi's and also in the knowledge that a slow start and relegation suddenly becomes a huge issue.
The problem with division two is just that the standard is way off division one, no disrespect to some of the sides in it who are putting in plenty of work and trying their best but some of the game I have attended over the last two years the pace and standard have been apauling and over as a contest after 15 minutes and of little or no benefit to either team. The problem with hurling at the moment is the gap between the 6th and the 12th best team is just too large and it puts the sides ranked between 7th and 10th at a serious disadvantage, if they are in division one they are going to struggle with the pace of it and will need time to find their feet while in division two tyhe standard isn't high enough and not enough meaningful games. Laois and Antrim on their day are capable of putting it up to the Clare's/Limericks/Wexfords/Offalys that they have faced in D2 but don't have the consistency to challenge for promotion either and have come a cropper to some of the lessor sides as well but again there is no real threat of relegation for them. the fact that the whole season pretty much rests on the league final for whoever is competing for it in Division 2 is not right either. At least with the 7 team division you have more competition with Clare/Wexford/Offaly all trying their hardest to get promoted while the carrot for the likes of Laois and Antrim is the chance to make a League semi final and have a shot of causing an upset and getting promoted while the stick is that they could find themselves in relegation trouble if they don't have their house in order and come a cropper against Down or Carlow, who in turn would feel that they had a great chance of making a semi final if they got a win over antrim or laois early in the contest.
I thought the logical solution would have been to keep the 2 eight team divisions with two up two down and bringn back semi finals but while people may be unhappy with only 5 games I don't think it will make much of a difference given that most sides are in heavy training in those months anyway, it should also allow county players more opportunities to play for their clubs over the spring in theory and get their club championships under way a bit more promptly
