75th Anniversary....
Just to mark the occasion...It's 75 years to the day since Jesse Owens won his 4th Olympic Gold at the (one) Berlin Games.
A feat not equalled in track and field until Carl Lewis in Los Angeles in 1984.

And Jesse never enjoyed Carl's advantages such as chemists.

Re: 75th Anniversary....
His wins were seen as a blow to Hitler's doctrine on 'inferior races' yet Jesse always held that, at that point, he was better treated in Germany than he was in his own country.

Good to have you back Paddy. In your absence, Dublin seem to have annexed Antrim's throne...Between minor hurlers, senior footballers, camogie finalists, rounders teams at 1/40 with Powers,"possible" meggar winners, their achievements this year will encompass even your best......
I'm baffled...
What weight was the hip BTW..

Re: 75th Anniversary....
The Los Angeles Olympics are the first that I remember vividly and, amidst Mary Lou Retton, Mary Decker and Rocketman, the biggest story of all was Carl Lewis' attempt to equal Jesse Owens' feat.
Owens was still the biggest name in athletics at that time and, 75 years after his achievement, he is still revered. A man who transcended his sport in a way that few others ever did, and still would be on most short-medium sized lists of the greatest sportsmen of all time.
