I dearly hope if the great Geoffrey McGonagle ever meets Corbett face to face that he rips his fooking head right off.

Re: Lar Corbett = Quisling
McGonagle had what you'd call 'presence'. He was part of the Derry football squad that Galway defeated in the semi finals of 98 and 01. Also have vague recollections of him scoring brilliant goals for the Derry hurlers when they had a relatively decent side at the turn of the century. A proud Lynch's man and trueThe Puke wrote:mossbags wrote:I dearly hope if the great Geoffrey McGonagle ever meets Corbett face to face that he rips his fooking head right off.

Was the goal from a drop puck, think it could have been against Offaly in 2000(?) when they gave them a bit of a game

Re: Lar Corbett = Quisling
Circa 3 mins to go 1998 Ulster SFC final - In a classic high scoring encounter - Donegal 0-8 Derry 0-7 or something around that mark - Big Geoffrey was sprung from the bench to a chorus from the Hill (the clones version) of "who ate all the pies" - Circa 60 seconds later under a high ball a donegal defender decided to treat Geoffrey as a roundabout
From hazy memory Geoffrey got the ball to Brolly which gave history the Kisses blowing scene in the Sunday Game intro.

Fooking green eyed monster here from the Galway and Clare lads. Corbett's scoring exploits speak for themselves. He is the Geoff Hurst of hurling - except they were all well over the line! Its a pity they didn't invite Joe or some of the Banner lads to meet the lady in Croker in May .... it'd be the only way they'd get to Croker ...

Re: Lar Corbett = Quisling
So you don't see any problem with what Lar did or with the position he put Kevin Lynch's in given where they are based and sentiments that some of their members and people in the locality would have towards the Queen, and quite rightly so given the recent history up there. The fact that he was more than happy to pocket their money and not even have the common courtesy to let them know as to his intentions shows either profound ignorance or profound greed from the man who thought he could run with the hare and hunt with the hound. A simple phone call to let them know wouldn't have put them in such a position and could have been easily avoided but he was too busy looking after number 1

Disappointing that one of the Forums senior statesman cannot see the bigger picture here. Corbett has gone well down in many peoples estimations after this episode.Jayo Cluxton wrote:Fooking green eyed monster here from the Galway and Clare lads.

Tell that to Joe Brolley's auldfella. This article is from 09 but I think it sums up well enough what the club means to the good people of Dungiven, something that Lar Corbett clearly couldn't care less aboutJayo Cluxton wrote:Its 2011 lads ...

'Our GAA club deserves Kevin Lynch honour' - says Brolly
Published on Friday 2 October 2009 10:55
East Derry MLA Francie Brolly has blasted a warning from the Sports Minister to GAA clubs that they could have their funding cut if they adopt the names of dead paramilitiaries as "absolute rubbish".
Nelson McCausland has asked Sport NI to examine their equality statement, which clubs have to sign if seeking funding, to see if it is "adequate". He said there was no place in sport for the naming of clubs, grounds or competitions after dead republicans.
But Sinn Fein's Francie Brolly branded the minister's comments "absolute rubbish", and said Dungiven's Kevin Lynch Hurling Club deserves its name.
"Kevin Lynch brought great distinction to hurling in Dungiven and in County Derry. That is the Kevin Lynch we know in relation to the history of his club. We don't want to discuss how he died. That is for politicians and the historians. That's another topic entirely."
Kevin Lynch Hurling Club is understood to be the only GAA club in the North named after a republican who died in the Troubles.
The 25-year-old was a member of the INLA who died on hunger strike in 1981, but Mr. Brolly said his political ties had nothing to do with why the club was named after the him.
"If you go to Dungiven and ask for a picture of Kevin Lynch, the one you will get is of him being carried shoulder high by his team mates as captain of the U16 Derry hurling team that won the All-Ireland in 1972," said Mr. Brolly. "That is the Kevin Lynch we know."
Mr. Brolly says many more clubs are named after Irish revolutionary leaders like Patrick Pearse and Tom Clarke and claims the issue is "part of a problem the unionist community in general, and the DUP in particular, has with things Irish".
"This is all politicking around the Irish culture. No-one is any doubt about that," Mr. Brolly told the 'Journal'.
"He's not a fool, but it is difficult for him to carry this off because he knows he is being disingenuous."
In particular, Mr. Brolly claimed Mr. McCausland is part of a wider DUP attempt to pre-empt the election campaign of TUV man Jim Allister.
"Nelson McCausland should be congratulating Kevin Lynch Hurling Club because if he came down during the commemorative week when there are hundreds of participants, from Primary One upwards, learning to play hurling with good family fun, he would see the good work being done. There is not a hint of politics and I don't think anyone there wants any either."
