Mayo V Sligo
Mayo remain the standard bearers at Connacht U-21 level as Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly's charges grabbed their fourth provincial title in a row at Markievicz Park.
Playing with substance and style, Mayo controlled the contest with the promising Aidan O'Shea delivering a smashing performance, pulling the strings from his centre-forward berth.
Inside, Mikey Sweeney, Neil Douglas, and Jason Doherty were all in the groove too as Mayo accumulated a thoroughly deserved 0-8 to 0-3 lead in the opening quarter.
Sligo were given a small ray of hope in the 18th minute when Stephen Coen expertly converted a penalty, but Mayo remained unperturbed.
Doherty bagged an opportunistic goal after O'Shea had created the chance as Mayo trotted in 1-10 to 1-4 ahead at the break.
And within seconds of the restart Neil Douglas had nicked another Mayo goal, and all that needed to be determined thereafter was the margin of victory as Sweeney embellished the success with a third goal.
Scorers -- Mayo: J Doherty 1-5 (0-3f), N Douglas 1-2, M Sweeney 1-1, T Parsons 0-2, C Carolan, A O'Shea, K McLoughlin, R Gallagher 0-1 each. Sligo: S Coen 1-4 (0-2f), E McHugh 0-3 (0-3f), S Kilcoyne 0-1.

Subs: S Prendergast for Broderick (27), C Jordan for Douglas (54), N Prenty for Burke (58), C English for Vaughan (58), J Gibbons for Carolan (59).

Dublin had a good win over Laois too and play Cork in the semi. Should be a tough one.

Cork have to be favourites Esther. They beat holders Kerry (fielding David Moran and Tommy Walsh) by 11 points. I'm not sure abaout us. We were patchy today but came good in the end. We will do very well to make the Final IMO.

Hopefully Mayo will keep on persevering. With the likes of Aidan O'Shea and Parsons they can't go wrong, hopefully.

Ya, Cork will be the favourites against dublin, but i have a feeling that dublin might just pull off a shocker against them-just a hunch! Anyway, Mayo are a force to be reckoned with. They just about beat roscommon, but alot of those rossie players were from the minor panel that won the all-ireland in '06 so it was a very very tough test for them. I'm telling ya, the crop of players that are in that U-21 set-up will aid Mayo greatly in their quest for the Sam Maguire in the next few years
