One of my best buddies, Ger Foley, a Carlow man, will be horsing out "dodgy" pints tonight in his hostelry "The Windmill" in Acton, if the result goes the way of the Exiles....

Re: Qualifiers Round 1
Was actually going to do Clare with 7 point handicap. Especially after checking weather forecast earlier

Down a point up in injury time....Clare have dominated the last 20 minutes, they will be sickened to lose....and have outscored Down 5 points to 1 in that time

Lucky feckers, apparently Clare had a goal chance cleared off the line in injury time. Unlucky Puke

Fookin hell.. Another rough evening for a Cavan supporter. 1 up at half time. Few changes made early in the second half and the thing completely fell apart. A bigger beating than Donegal. We're Division 4 standard, and that could be where we are headed. Well done Longford..

Re: Qualifiers Round 1
Cavan were very bad in the second half. To be nice I will start off by looking at the positives. Jimmy McEnroe, who was a late inclusion, did well. Givney lorded it for a period but I get the impression he dosen't trust his half-backs and half-forwards to pick up the breaks so tries to go it alone - to the team's detriment. Keating is very good at FF and way better than Jelly. Flanagan did alright when introduced.
Negatives. No full back line. Martin Cahill and Thomas Corr are not good enough. This has been said before but clearly, they are the best of what's there. McKeever kicked a great point in the first half but was bad other than that. Fergal Flanagan played as a sweeper, he wasn't great. Nesty, who was good for Cavan last year, was very bad and to make matters worse went and got himself sent off. It looks as though it will take Gearoid McKiernan a year or two to settle into this team, he showed form in patches but was anonymous for long periods. Jelly wasn't great. The number twelve for Cavan was not good, not good at all, and I will reserve further comment on him as I could be accused of criticism if I start being honest. At one stage, I was convinced that the Cavan players forgot they weren't wearing blue such was some of the efforts at kick-passing. Maybe then, that was why they were so unsure of themselves letting it into McDermott and Jelly, quick and early. I don't know. It's a never ending story for Cavan. Another championship with promise turns out to be a write-off. Where to now? Probably the same place they go every Winter. And with same results next summer.

You were foolish with your comments. However I also learned the hard way back in 2008.
Big question marks remain over Down, they are clearly not the team you profess them to be. With some nice draws, who knows? But they are not the second best team in Ireland, as their All-Ireland final place might indicate. And never have been at any stage in the last 16 years.
Tonight also discredits your point about the u21s. I highly doubt the Down u21 team were even in the top 5 in Ulster.

Re: Qualifiers Round 1
Some telling comments from Cavan lads on twitter, both U21 players away for the summer.
Daragh Tighe writes "Whats another year?no winning mentality in a lot of the lads, things seriously have to change"
Kevin Meehan says "They'll still be out tonight proud as punch... Mentality around the place stinks..will some ever learn..#youhavetowonder" (I assume he's talking about a select few here..)
The U21s held their own for Cavan tonight. Gearoid set up 3 scores in the first half when Cavan went behind. Feargal Flanagan did fine at corner back I thought, the damage was done after he came off injured, Cavan went a point down just as he came off. McDermott looked nervous and didn't get into the game until near the end when he came farther out the field. Murray came off injured early, Michael Brady was poor.
Johnston is brilliant on his day.. But those days are becoming more and more infrequent. Doesn't have the same dangerous hunger for scores he had a few years ago. He shouldn't be captain of the side either.
