Banty hails Geraghty as Meath's "best ever"
29 June 2011
Eyebrows were raised when Banty recalled the Royal County legend to his squad last month, but the Monaghan man is sticking by his decision:
"There's one thing I'll say about Graham Geraghty and I'll say it hand on heart. And some people might not like this: Graham Geraghty is the best footballer Meath ever produced in my eyes.
"Class is permanent; form is temporary. He proved it a few weeks ago against Kildare.
"I was disappointed for Graham that he wasn't fit to come in against Louth. I would've loved to give him more game time because I believe there is more than 15 or 20 minutes in him.
"He has a great belief, he has a brilliant attitude, he is a leader and drives you from the front. You can never have enough of them in your dressing room."
This story is total bull, the only reason Geraghty was brought back was for money reason's,and that's it

Unlike Graham, some of them actually managed to stay on the pitch for a whole game, meaning that they had more presence on it than he often did!
In all seriousness, what you've just highlighted as a strength of Geraghty's was actually one of his biggest weaknesses - his lack of leadership. Too often, when he was needed most, Geraghty would disappear. He was a fabulous athlete and a very gifted footballer, but I never got the impression that he was dragging mediocrity around him to new heights, in the way that O'Rourke or Giles did.
Eh sorry but when was the last time Graham got sent off for Meath? 2006 or 2005 I think and before that I wouldn't have a clue. He has a reputation that he was always getting sent off but he obviously wasn't.
When did Graham disappear in big matches? Don't know where you're getting that from at all. Look at his performance against Dublin in 05 where he nearly beat them singlehandedly when Meath were no great shakes.
And on another point are you seriously saying the players around Colm O'Rourke and Trevor Giles were mediocre? Flynn, Stafford, Beggy, Lyons, Harnan, O'Connell, McEntee, Hayes, Cassells, Coyle, McDermott, Dowd, Ollie Murphy, Fay, O'Malley and Foley... Very mediocre yeah

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
Meath stalwart Graham Geraghty has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles injury.
The 38-year-old ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg and will undergo surgery to correct the problem, but will not feature in the green and gold again this season.
Geraghty made a dramatic return for the Royals before the defeat to Kildare in the Leinster quarter-final, and had a goal disallowed in controversial circumstances moments after coming on a substitute against the Lilywhites.
Despite his age, Geraghty has indicated that he will be available for the 2012 season.
'If I was asked back next year I'd go in. This has only made me more determined,' he told The Sun newspaper.
'After all the controversy of returning, to then only come on for a short while against Kildare and get one touch of a ball you would feel there is some unfinished business.
'It is extremely frustrating. As far as I can remember I have never missed a game because of injury during my career.
'So for it to happen now when you were really looking forward to getting going again with Meath is hard to take. I was enjoying it and felt I had been going well in training.
'A lot of people will probably say "that's it now, you're past it" or "that's old age" or whatever but you can't do anything about that'.
And there goes the hopes and dreams of Royal_Girl for 2011.
If Graham never pulls on the green and gold again, the biggest injustice of all time will be the disallowed goal against Kildare.
Probably the defining moment of 2011 football championship:

Can't believe it. Everything was going so well... He better be picked for the panel next year. It would be too ironic to have the last thing Graham ever did in a Meath jersey was have a perfect goal disallowed. It's just not fair. I'm off for a cry now

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
Graham Geraghty is being tipped to become a player-selector with Meath next year.
Seamus McEnaney, whose future as Meath manager could be decided at a county board meeting next Monday, is believed to have recommended Geraghty for the unique role. McEnaney already has one selector in Tom Keigue, but needs to appoint another after both Liam Harnan and Barry Callaghan resigned on the eve of this year's championship.
And Geraghty, who is eager to continue playing next year, could fit the bill.
The 1999 All-Ireland winning captain made a sensational return to the Meath fold earlier this year after a three-year absence. However, the 38-year-old's comeback was cut short by an Achilles injury he suffered in training prior to the Royals' All-Ireland qualifier game against Louth.
Geraghty, who managed Castledaly to a Westmeath SFC quarter-final appearance recently, was involved as a coach with the Longford footballers last year, so he isn't short of managerial experience.
When asked if he would be continuing as Castledaly manager after their Westmeath SFC quarter-final defeat to Mullingar Shamrocks, Geraghty replied: "At the moment, I don't know if I will still be managing Castledaly next year, we will have to wait and see."
Now I might get to see him at every match <3
