Re: Poor ould Graham ....
Mullins clearly has his ear to the ground - LMFM say this stalwart is back in the Meath fold, and in line for a starting berth against the winners of Wicklow and Kildare.

Yes call the press, Graham is back:

The 1999 All-Ireland SFC winning captain Graham Geraghty has made a sensational return to the Meath panel ahead of the Leinster SFC quarter-final against either Kildare or Wicklow on Sunday 5th June.
However, the Clann na nGael man, who has been in excellent form for his club, is not expected to play any part in the SF challenge against Westmeath in Rosemount tonight.
Ballinabrackey's Chris O'Connor and Longwood's Mickey Burke have been recalled for tonight's challenge and they will be hoping to produce enough good form to earn a permanent recall ahead of the Leinster SFC.
Rumours also suggested that Darren Fay was set to re-join the panel after a two year absence, but that will not be the case.
Tonight's SF challenge in Rosemount will feature 25 players with 18 other players particpating in a high intensity training session at a secret location.

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
And what is the initial reaction in the Royal county to this breaking news? Season saved from impending disaster, or the move of a desperate (Monaghan) man?
(Oh, and it's a good job the 18 who obviously aren't in consideration for the championship are training in a 'secret location', as God forbid spies should catch a glimpse of fringe-panelists running laps of the field. )

The reaction in the Royal County is one of intrigue and wonder.
Whether or not he plays any part in the Championship is highly debeatable.

I think Graham has had enough trauma arising from his finanancial woes without people on fourms starting unsubstantiated rumours with regard to STDS. - Surprised RMD has let this through

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
Seems as if Graham's return to the panel has come at a price.
Harnan and Callaghan have walked.
Banty is losing control - if nothing else, I'm enjoying this circus.
I said it, we'd be a laughing stock sacking O'Brien, did I say it?
Here we are now. 6/7 games lost in the League, two victories in the O'Byrne Cup Shield. Jamie Queeny the new full-back, and a 38 year old, failed politician, former rugby and soccer player drafted in two weeks before the championship and now half the management walk away.
Did I say that?

Banty hails Geraghty as Meath's "best ever"
29 June 2011
Eyebrows were raised when Banty recalled the Royal County legend to his squad last month, but the Monaghan man is sticking by his decision:
"There's one thing I'll say about Graham Geraghty and I'll say it hand on heart. And some people might not like this: Graham Geraghty is the best footballer Meath ever produced in my eyes.
"Class is permanent; form is temporary. He proved it a few weeks ago against Kildare.
"I was disappointed for Graham that he wasn't fit to come in against Louth. I would've loved to give him more game time because I believe there is more than 15 or 20 minutes in him.
"He has a great belief, he has a brilliant attitude, he is a leader and drives you from the front. You can never have enough of them in your dressing room."

Top 10 Meath players? I'd say he'd be up there with Colm O'Rourke and Trevor for sure. Who are these ten who you think are better than him?

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
I said he'd be doing well to make the top 10, not that he wouldn't make it.
But he'd certainly be behind Giles, O'Rourke, Martin O'Connell, Darren Fay and Paddy O'Brien, meaning he wouldn't be in my top 5.
After that you could discuss Mick O'Brien, Red Collier, Pat Reynolds, Peter McDermott, Bertie Cunningham, Liam Hayes, Gerry McEntee, Robbie O'Malley, Mick Lyons, Bernard Flynn, Tommy Dowd and a few others. Graham would come into that debate, although his claims would be no stronger that any of those.

Re: Poor ould Graham ....
It's difficult for me to comment on all of them as most of them played before I was born but while they may have been as good as, if not better than, Graham did they all have the same presence on the pitch?

Unlike Graham, some of them actually managed to stay on the pitch for a whole game, meaning that they had more presence on it than he often did!
In all seriousness, what you've just highlighted as a strength of Geraghty's was actually one of his biggest weaknesses - his lack of leadership. Too often, when he was needed most, Geraghty would disappear. He was a fabulous athlete and a very gifted footballer, but I never got the impression that he was dragging mediocrity around him to greater heights, in the way that O'Rourke or Giles did. Except, of course, against the Dubs, for whom he always seemed to raise his game.
