Just heard on the news now. Awful tragedy, and especially when it happens at what should have been a joyful time for both families.
RIP.

For a man and family who place religion at the core of everything they do they have had an awful lot to contend with in so far as tragedies and the loss of young lives are concerned. It would really make you wonder at times...............
God rest her and my prayers and sympathy go out to her husband and Mickey Marion and the entire Harte family.
RIP.

For such a man that seems to be competely genuine and sound in the public eye and indeed for his family this news is extremely poignant To me.

Nicely put as I was thinking along those lines as Mickey has had his share of sorrow. Hopefully the religious belief, epitomized in the poem "Death be not Proud" will stand by the family.
As for the McAreevey family, my condolences to them as well, but words fail even me at times like this.
You just feel helpless.

Helpless isnt the word for it Patrique - cant say i knew Michaela terribly well but i have had a fair bit of contact with Mickey and Marion over the last number of years and the feeling of numbness is overwhelming to say the least, i know its a bit ironic but its exactly like the day i heard Cormac McAnallen (RIP) had passed away.
To go from such joy and happiness less than 2 weeks ago to such grief and sadness today is unbelievable - i cant fathom it at all

Re: Michaela Harte RIP
A real tragedy.
From seeing Michaela on the Late Late and the Rose of Tralee it is obvious she was a very special and beautiful person. To see her on the pitch with her Dad and on the LLS and the fact that she went to every game since she was 7 its clear there was a very special bond between the two. My heart goes out to her father, mother and three brothers. Devasatation for them and for GAA people everywhere. May she rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are also with the Harte family at this terrible time. Mickey has always been one to promote the three f's - Family, Football and Faith. I hope his deep sense of faith can help him through this awfully difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasail.

Mauritius police have six suspects for Michaela's murder
The daughter of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte was murdered in her hotel room, police in Mauritius confirmed today.
A post-mortem examination on 27-year-old teacher Michaela Harte revealed that she had been strangled.
She was found dead in the room by her new husband, Down senior Gaelic footballer John McAreavey.
The couple were on honeymoon after getting married less than two weeks ago.
Superintendent Yoosoof Soopun, from the Mauritius Police Force, said officers had identified six potential suspects and were confident of an arrest later today.
He said Mr McAreavey was in the restaurant of the hotel when his wife was murdered.
“She had gone back to the room to get some biscuits to put in her tea and, when she failed to return, her husband went to look for her,” he said.
“When he found her in the room, she had been killed. He tried to help her but she was already dead.
“A post-mortem has showed she was strangled, she died from neck compression.”
Mr Soopun said the killer had used an electronic key card to enter the room.
“There was no forced entry into the room,” he said.
“Whoever killed her definitely used an electronic card.”
He added: “This is being viewed with much concern by the police and government of Mauritius. We are doing everything we can to find whoever was responsible.”

Confirmed that she was murdered. Horrible story. Honestly don't know how I would cope with something like this happening on your honeymoon.

Re: Michaela Harte RIP
the nightmare is just getting worse for all involved - it may have some consolation to know she died of natural causes but to think she died in this manner must be truly devastating.
Have to say i took a long look at my own daughter this morning and thought to myself what must it be like to to be told such news - i know Mickey and the family are strong individuals but this must be pushing them to breaking point.
To think of all the funerals he has attended and all the 'counselling' he has given to others and this is his 'reward'

Re: Michaela Harte RIP
Sometimes a soul
Will grow and glow
Will light up all
They come to know.
Will spread happiness, pleasure and fun
Will bring some hope where there is none
Will brighten up the darkest space
Will bring a smile to the saddest face
Will bring such joy to all they know
And leave a happiness wherever they go.
Sometimes that soul
Will suddenly be gone
And leave a void
Where light once shone,
And all that’s left
Are memories and thoughts
Of all the goodness
They once brought.
And through the hurt
And through the despair
It is the memories
That all should share,
To remind and remember
Though we can’t see
That the light still shines
Wherever it may be.
Will grow and glow
Will light up all
They come to know.
Will spread happiness, pleasure and fun
Will bring some hope where there is none
Will brighten up the darkest space
