Joe Kernan Joe Kernan won the All-Ireland title with Armagh in 2002

The leading GAA figure, Joe Kernan, has been declared bankrupt.

Mr Kernan led Armagh to their first All-Ireland Senior Football title in 2002 and more recently was in charge of the Galway team.

Away from his sporting involvement, he ran an estate agency and mortgage brokerage in Crossmaglen which he established in 1990.

That firm, Joe Kernan & Sons Estate Agents Ltd, has applied to be struck off the companies register.

However, two other firms which share the same address at Newry Street in Crossmaglen, were incorporated in July this year.

They are Joe Kernan & Sons Lettings and Management Ltd and Joe Kernan & Sons Property Services Ltd.

His wife Patricia and two of his sons, Aaron and Stephen have also been declared bankrupt.

The official bankruptcy notice were published on Friday.

No offence to yourself Peter, but I'd be for deleting this thread altogether. Who wants to dwell or muse on any man's misfortune (unless it's some thundering blackguard, the likes of corrupt banker or politician)...
Joe gave the Gaels of Armagh and indeed further, many's the good day and should be respected for that and allowed time to cope with personal issues....

Think for once i will agree with Boxty here on this one. Kernan has obviously become another victim of the property bubble bursting. But his personal afrairs shouldn't be published here.

Its a factual story so can stay here. These are not good times for anybody and the hope is that Big Joe will meet this head on, deal with it and come out a winner the other end - as he has done mostly. And good luck to him.

Armagh man or not, i have little if any symapthy for him. Estate agents and bankers are the biggest shower of crooks you could ever have the misfortune of getting mixed up with. They're the ones who were directly resposible for the mess the country is in. They hiked up prices and interest rates to rip the common folk off, its come back to bite them. **** them.

funnily enough Samin i would be on the same level as you were the sympathy is concerned - he may be bankrupt but that doesnt mean he is skint, i'm sure he has enough buried in substantial mattress he lies on to keep him going, greed got the better of him if you ask me.

There were a few people on Late Late show who were more deserving of sympathy than big Joe!!!!!

exactly, im sure his top of the range merc isnt parked up with no fuel, his race horses are not starving (he certainly isnt anyway). Irish news said his other business' are still operating. not sure how that works but im sure if he was that hard up for money he wouldnt have given up his tax free job with galway over principals
