Who will win?
All Ireland Football Final 2010- Cork vs Down
Will it be the physical prowess of Cork or the silky skills of Down.

Sadly, I feel that Cork may win this. Never was I more hopeful of being wrong...

It seems quite clear that Tom Petty's money won't be on the Ulstermen ....

Hope my good neighbors from Langerland win. Who could begrudge an All Ireland medal for the likes of Graham Canty,Nicholas Murphy,Anthony Lynch, especially, great players over the past number of years. Down have plenty of time.

Well Tom Petty may not favour the Mourne men but go to 3.50 in this video and Leslie Crowther is firmly nailing his colours to the mast! Great to see the Final generating so much interest among non-Irish celebrities. Any more?

Re: All Ireland Football Final 2010- Cork vs Down
Such a hard one to call. Cork have not been playing all that well this year but have still limped into the All-Ireland final so they are due a big performance. Some of their big players like Lynch and Canty know well that time is fast running out for them to claim an All-Ireland nd the pressure is on. Down have nothing to lose (forget about their record.....if they lose the record they lose it....has to happen sometime). Danny Hughes who is himself a veteran said before the Kildare match that 2010 is not now or never for Down. They're extrememly happy with this year's progress and know this experience will serve them well in future years. They lack experience of All-Ireland finals though. Cork have felt the pain of defeat in AI finals and will be desperate not to be remembered as chokers on the big day.
The team who dicates the pace will control this game. Down love nothing better than high tempo games and they thrive on quick passing and movement. Kildare failed to stop Down moving, allowing Hughes unlimited space to run around in and preventing the ball getting moved towards Clarke. However, Cork are a physically stronger side and this strength will be the key to stopping Down's flowing movements. In players like Canty they have strength, experience, and leadership. But I wonder if the Cork management have the tactical awareness to use these qualities to greatest effect.
I said before that I thought Kildare would be Down's biggest challenge in 2010. So I'm going to have to stand by that. Down are nippier, quicker on the ball and in my opinion possess more natural footballers. But 2010 has seen a transformation in this team.....all that skill has finally been joined with a great workrate in all areas of the pitch and this has been crucial. To me, who has followed this team through thick and thin, they are a totaly new beast than they were against Tyrone and have learned many lessons this year. And sure....even if they don't do it on the 19th I'm still expecting big things from this team over the next few years.

Re: All Ireland Football Final 2010- Cork vs Down
was just reading a bit about Mickey Linden there Boxty he is still playing club football albeit reserves but at the ripe old age of 47 thats good going. He scored 4 points and set up a goal in a reserve championship match during the week!!!!!
As far as the final is concerned i see Down will not be staying in Dublin the night before instead they will travel down on the morning of the match receiving a Garda escort from the border. It seems they have never stayed the night before in their previous 5 finals either!!!!
Hard to call the game would love to see Down win it but Cork are a big side and they are due a big game, though that might not necessarily come this Sunday!!!!

They may find the journey time is less. Mind you, another case of tight Nordies not wanting to spend the Queen's shilling in the South. No doubt the bus will be stacked full of Asda's best Dutch Gold on the way down, with nibbles from Sainsburys of the Quay .....

Re: All Ireland Football Final 2010- Cork vs Down
Am I the only one who thinks this Down team will fade back into obscurity after Sunday? I give them full credit for what they have achieved so far and they have a great shot at taking Cork in the final but I'm not convinced they will push on from this year.
They wouldn't be favourites for Ulster next year in my book or even to reach another Semi. Can anyone see them taking on Kerry with Galvin and T. O'Shea or even beating Tyrone? I don't think so..

Is Cassidys not a Donegal Pub (Jamsie O Donnell) ?
Realise the lads got a bit of bad press for their tardy return to the hills after the drawn Q/F versus Dublin in 2002 but had hoped they would have left by now ?

Re: All Ireland Football Final 2010- Cork vs Down
Is this game even goin ahead still?
So little talk about it, one could be forgiven for neglecting to watch the match on the box atall !
Goes to show the efforts the GAA make to market their games.
Anyway, in terms of the game, should be a tight one.
But I hope Cork win. Be good to keep it in the country.
In my opinion, there should be a seperate championship for the nordies. Let them stay above there the hell with them.

Joseff

Fran Ryder used to have a hand in Cassidys as far as I remember. Used to be popular among Dub players and fans back when I was allowed go into town for a few scoops after games. (1960s!)
And it mustn't be a Donegal pub. No nude pool.

The Intermediate relegation battle in Leitrim caused greater interest....
I blame Biffo and his exploits myself, fookin' gom up drinking pints to grab the headlines....The soldiers of destiny are not to be trusted....
