Have to be careful what i say as i dont wanna be too insulting to the man. Did anyone hear the interview he did with des cahill at the weekend? Cant think what else to say without being derogatory

Re: John Delaney
Can only speak from my own experiences at grass roots level but he certainly has pulled the associatio kicking and screamin into the 21st century.....The improvements in infrastucture have been huge in the last 10 years, even more astounding given the disparity in grant money between the FAI and the GAA....
Not the greatest orator and doens't come across the best in interviews but he is a shrewd enough operator....Considering the dinosaurs in the FAI and the many disasters that insued before he took charge I think he has done a fine job

DElaney didn't become Chief Executive til 2004......You can **** on about all them but looking at the way the FAI went about their business before he took over and before he took over there has been a vast improvement at almost every aspect, the Aviva Ticket one won't have too many implications especially if they start of well in qualifying given the bangwagon nature of irish fans....Compare it to the ticket fiasco from the 1994 World Cup and it is small fry...

Re: John Delaney
I still think the blazer culture runs the FAI. He got the job in a nepotistic manner and I don't like the 'democratic' nature of a body that gets a lot of public funding. I don't see much difference in the organisation at all - some changes were forced through Genesis and not optional. The LoI is still a shambles and while the clubs themselves are to blame the FAI are supposed to vet them. The financial messes of some did not happen in one year.
If you want to bring an 8 year old to a soccer international you pay adult or stay at home. Sorry not a fan of the man or the body.

fair enough, couldn't be arsed debating it....just don't think he or the FAI get enough credit for the progress that has been made a grassroots level in recent years, facilities have improved drastically in a very short space of time and playing numbers are very healthy at the moment....

Re: John Delaney
Agree with that P - but schoolboy soccer has been in rude health for years, (and I am not sure if the kudos here is for the FAI top brass - more the volunteers at ground level) - yet still nothing comes through. Worse now that English football no longer offers an outlet but the Scandinavians can produce 'finished' players with similar populations and resources and domestic leagues.

Re: John Delaney
Are the FAI is a severe financial morass? Today's paper had some story about deficits of around €38m. I didn't read it but it doesn't sound good if these figures are to be believed...I may have to have a few cognacs to help me sleep if this were true....Very worrying for those concerned with this commercial enterprise...
