Re: GAA Moments that shook the world
To be honest you seem a bit fixated by this. It was controversial moment that was a talking point for a week. It won't impact the AI result - probably didn't even impact the semi final line up. In years to come it will get mentioned when Louth draw Meath and will be remembered in Louth - Other than that no one gives a Fxxk
If you want defining/famous moments in the last 30 odd years
Seamus Darbys goal in 1982
Tyrone V Kerry 2003 and the coming of age of Total/Puke (depending on your view) football
Downs win in 1991 and the start of the Ulster Era 91-94
Armagh v Kerry 2006 and the star is born
Christy Heffernans 2 goals in 45 seconds in 1982 against red hot favourites Cork
and superstar FB martin Donoghue
any of end of "hurling famines" for Offaly, Galway, Clare or wexford
Maurice Fitzgeralds point
clare beating Kerry in 1992 Munster Final
Offaly turnaround v Limerick
1983 and the dirty Dozen
the arrival of the 87 Meath team
Kilkennys total demolition of Waterford and proof that we were seeing the greatest rather than a great side

I beg to differ Omar. The Joe Sheridan goal inkeeping with the title did shake the GAA world. It denied Louth their chance at history and let to the first televised assault of an official at an intercounty game and has let to the raising of the barrier on the hill and confirmed the end of pitch invasions. The fallout from those few seconds has undeniably changed the GAA!

Televised assaults of a ref by supporters in the GAA? When? I'm open to correction but I thought this was a first..

Re: GAA Moments that shook the world
Omar, would agree wholeheartedly with most of your defining moments in the GAAs history but depending on your view the dirty dozen can be classed as the 12 apostles Also the "star" came to prominence against Longford in Killarney in 2006 setting up 3 goals and a few points and scoring himself on the day.
Other ones worth noting are:
Football breakthroughs such as Westmeath and Laois in Leinster.
Tyrone winning 10 matches to win the All Ireland Football Final in 2005.
The battle of Omagh/Semplegate and other schmozzles that were blown out of all proportion by the CCCCCC
Paul Galvin and The Notebook (not to be confused with the weepie starring Ryan Gosling! )

Re: GAA Moments that shook the world
I agree with much of Bubbles' list but I've others to add.
For me,
- The Biffo sit-down-stand- off of '98 versus Clare.
- Desmond's horrific miss in 2003 versus Meath.
- Wexford beating KK in 2004. (Including Cody's hilarious collapse behind the goals when the yellabellys scored)
- Monaghan knocking Armagh out of Ulster in '03
- Padraig Clancy's monstrous point for Laois v Dublin also in '03 which suggested to many the birth of a new force in football, which never really developed.

Has happened on a few occasions,
Clare v tipp u21 hurling match was live on TG4
Various club matches over the past few years on TG4 as well.just to name a few.
always a blind eye turned to it and seen as a laugh - eg the ref in the boot in wicklow which has happened TWICE to the best of my knowledge.
Abuse towards officials is rampant at the moment especially at U16/minor level from players and from parents at a younger level.

was in the stands for this one, very close to the tunnel. Lots of angry Clare fans were trying to get to the ref. Ref was definitely pushed/shoved and all kinds of obscenities shouted into his face.
And he had made the correct decision as well

Another statement from a "man" who knows it all.
I can state right now your confusing queen game rule with ours, but you know it all.
Read the rule book you'll be very surprised who knows what.

Hold on there now. I presume by your post that you're a referee. I can tell you that there are referees in Carlow banned from refereeing matches involving certain clubs.
If you are a referee answer this. How can a player after wining a free be punished by losing the free (throw in) after he gets hit in the head with a hurl after the free is givin?
