Re: Louth v Meath
Yeah Sludden is definately the main culprit. As I say the umpire should have been more forceful but looking at it again, and I've seen pictures around this time too, you can see the umpire calling Sludden in but he barely listens to the umpire and just tells him to put up the flag.
Also at the end, Sludden was too busy taking down what seemed like a long list of names and showing a few cards rather than getting back to his dressing room quickly. You'd think he'd have had the sense to get off the field as soon as possible given the booing he was getting. Could have avoided some of the nasty scenes, though it has to be said the Gardai did a pathetic job of protecting him. I see one of the stewards got injured in the tunnel - anyone know what happened there?

The minority of Louth fans didn't do their chances of being offered a replay much good.
I'm fairly sure that's a fan and not Judge who was wearing no. 13? Judge had more curly hair.

I'd be fairly confident MMM that it wasn't a Louth fan wearing the number 13 jersey. I've been reliably informed that it was actually a Dublin fan wearing a Louth jersey.

Re: Louth v Meath
Ref made a mistake s??t happens
umpires need to be more vocal and referees need to have an established process of speaking to both umpires if there is a controversial issue
Clearly we have a grassroots tradition of non neutral umpires
at club games. This results in refs having disregard for umpires opinion which seeps through to intercounty level
Biggest disgrace today is the behaviour of the Gardai
hundreds of gaurds on duty for every big game getting double/treble time - for them not to be able to react swiftly to an incident like this is shocking. surely its not that hard to have a procedure where half a dozen gaurds are assigned to form a cordon around the ref if there is a pitch invasion

The end of fans getting on the pitch in Croker now.....The railings will be erected, disappointed for Louth, ref made a hames of the decisions but a few of their fans badly let them down......They may well be looking for a replay but IMHO they should be kicked out of the championship, disgraceful carry on....You can excuse one or two idiots letting the side down and acting alone but it was a joke the amount of them that tried to assault the ref

Re: Louth v Meath
Ref got it wrong on a few counts.
1. his umpire never raised the flag, this act tells the ref that the score was not legal, example
if i take 8 steps and kick a ball and it goes to the net, as an umpire I raise the green flag it is up to the ref to stop the 8 steps and blow for a free.
if i use the palm to score a point or goal or CARRY the ball over the line the umpires duty is NOT to raise the green flag.
The umpire DID NOT raise the flag, i.e. he was telling the ref the score was obtained in an illegal manner
The ref ignored his umpire, when he did go in he TOLD him to raise the flag he did not consult him
2 He got caught up in the moment, instead of telling the players to clear away so he could consult with his other officials
3 He never consulted either linesman
He made a mistake like Omar said **** happens build a bridge.
What happened afterwards was disgraceful and has so part what so ever on a GAA field.
A replay can be offered precedent is there from 1998 Clare/Offaly but again it is at the discretion of the respective county boards.
You cannot blame any players they are there to win so this bullshit of blaming Meath players or passing reference to them is bull.
Only ones that were disgraceful today were the 5/6 Louth supporters that went after the ref even though he did make a huge mistake

Re: Louth v Meath
As my reputation goes, I'll only be playing this one way for the next fortnight.
Have to hand it to Meath, never say die, ball is in the net. We do it again. Never over until the final whistle.
I am particularly delighted for Louth supporters too. The lovely lady who waved me on in a car and then when I pulled out to join the traffic, she puts the foot down and misses me by millimetres. Then follows it with funny sort of hand gestures.
Going to games and following sport all my life and thats what happens.
To the Louth supporters and in the most unforum like language:
**** You.
We have the cup. And that is all that matters.

Loyal Meath people have been at these tactics for years now. Its not nice when its on the other foot is it? maybe this will teach Meath fans some humility.
Edit: looks like i spoke too soon.

Re: Louth v Meath
Well if Louth has focussed on marking their men or defending the square instead of kicking the ball away before the last free maybe
the result would have been different.

Re: Louth v Meath
Cheating - What nonsense
5 step carries
double hops
balls picked off the ground
illegal handpasses
Falling when not fouled
stealing yards at a free
Fouls
Kicking the ball away at a free
Standing in the square
making contact with a player off the ball
third man tackle
Now please define what is cheating and whats just deliberate breach of the rules

Oh my god, its even worse that what I seen in Croke Park.
How can you have a replay? Take a leaf out of UEFA's book and make them play their games behind close doors for the next year. That is disgraceful, how can those thugs do that?
Louth fans, as a collective group, should be barred from GAA stadiums at least for the rest of the year. A fair call? I think so.
We didn't even see the lad hitting Mark Ward either. Or the lady who tried to run into me outside the stadium. What thugs.

Thats a fan BTW, not a player (see the watch). Although I believe the same fan was seen later protecting the ref.

Coming out of a side road just below the Mater Hospital and Mountjoy onto the Ulster Bank/Big Tree to Phisborough road, not 100% of its name.
Anyway, traffic was very slow, anyway I get to the top of the road and attempt to join the other traffic, lady waves me on and I edge on to pull out. She then puts her foot down and must have missed me by inches, I was hard on the brakes. I was then stood facing the side of her car for a minute and I kind of signal well what all that about? She then proceeded to give me the fingers and wave a Louth headband. Obviously she seen my Meath jersey and I tried to make a point.
That, more than anything else, left a sad taste in my mouth. I'm going to GAA matches all my life, innocently supporting Meath and then that. Don't care what anyone says about Louth supporters, absolute thugs and no room for that in any part of society.
