I am a college virgin wtb but I'd fully expect LIT to bate them off the pitch with all them Clare lads on the UCG team. LIT/WIT final should be epic

They are talking about putting John Lee on Joe Canning but I can't see this switch making much of a difference.

Don't agree with it either but i fairness Nuig don't have a full back of the calibre that could mark Canning. They'll have to cut off the supply to beat them, if Canning gets the ball it won't make much difference who's on him.

Re: Fitzgibbon Cup
NUIG 1-23 LIT 1-21 AET. Brillant game of hurling, fast physical end to end stuff. It was level all the way neither team able to pull more than 2 or 3 clear. NUI looked to be going to win it in normal time before No. 26 from LIT sneaked in a goal, then LIT tagged on a point. Galway's centre (Tipp, can't think of his name) scored a wonder point from the sideline to level matters. Canning then missed a free from halfway for the win, NUI had a man sent off at the death. Galway looked the hungrier fitter side in extra time, went 3 clear again and LIT's best hope was a free from Canning just before the final whistle, he went for goal but shot over. All in all Lee marked him out of it and he only showed flashes of brillance.
Davy Fitz should come with subtitles and a bleeper.

Re: Fitzgibbon Cup
'A turn up for the books' is I believe the appropiate expression for the LIT result. Loyal will be wetting himself as JC hurled schite. John Lee was outstanding. WIT turning it around against UL in the other game.

No didn't go just read a report about the game. NUIG haven't won it since 1980 when the likes of Conor Hayes lined out for NUIG.

Re: Fitzgibbon Cup
I think many of us saw Lee a few years ago and spotted him as the young Galway hurler to look out for.
Seems we were right.

But not during the game. That was in extra time.
he is still like those American footballers, they should just bring him on to hit the frees.

Re: Fitzgibbon Cup
He's useful as a presence even when he's not scoring from play.. Lee fouled him at the end where there was no need to at all but he panicked because it was Canning.. Luckily it didn't cost them.

What went wrong for LIT I hear you ask? Well Loyal2TheRoyal has found the answer! Listen closely from 1m 47s, this is where the wonderfully strategic and tactical Davy Fitz gets it all wrong:

Lee did a great job to be fair. He had the physical strength to strand up to Canning which was one of the main things and to be honest, I think his impact at centre-back is very much overrated anyway.
Whatever about the foul you refer to, David Barrett's foul at the end of normal time was unbelievably stupid. If Canning had scored that free Barrett would have been forever remembered for it. Fortunately for Nuig he bottled it. From a Galway point of view Barry Daly and Declan Connolly were excellent in that game, both of them were outstanding from start to finish.

Re: Fitzgibbon Cup
I'd say LIT were full sure they were going to win, I mean their preparation wasn't ideal. Think I heard off someone 29 players from Clare involved in the semi-finals not sure if they all got a game though.

i would say there was 29 clare lads between all the respective panels.....AFAIK NUIG had 14 clarelads on their panel, LIT would have had about 10 Clare lads, think WIT had three, presume there was 2 or three on the UL panel as well
