Teams who won't be winning Sam in 2009
Bar the usual no-hopers, here are the teams that I don't think will win Sam. Things may change in time but at the minute, this is what I think.
Galway - They aren't really that good for a start. I reckon if we met them again, we'd be beat them. Defence is shaky, and when I see Barry Cullinane in midfield, I know things aren't great. Forwards in fairness are a class apart but it will take more than a few forwards.
Kildare - Wouldn't win the All-Ireland in a month of Sundays. Just becuase Keiren McGeeney is boss, people seem to assume they are a threat. Talk about nonsense, nowhere near the top 5 in Leinster. I remember this time last year, everyone talked about Kildare after a good league campaign and look what happened. Probably the same people talking them up again.
Dublin - If they couldn't win it up until now, then what has changed? I'm actually starting to believe that Pillar was a good manager. The sum of the individuals on the last few years of Dublins teams probably amounted to less than what they produced and credit must go to Pillar for that. And it must be said there seems little or no talent coming through.
Donegal - Again, they aren't anything special. Living off of past glories and a few of their teams in the league look like they contain a lot of players who are getting on.
Derry - In 1999, people said Derry had a young team and would be forced to be reckoned with. Since then, they have achieved nothing and now people are saying the same thing and probably have been saying the same thing ever since. Also there seems a growing trend over the last few years for the likes of Derry and such teams to do well in the League and then fail to produce it on the big day come Championship. I know for a fact that Meath are a team in very heavy training at the minute and won't be ripe until around June (Meath have got better with every game). Teams who do well in the League peak too soon and can't match it with the teams who are starting to hit form in the Championship.

While it looks unlikely that Meath possess the ability to win the All-Ireland, I would be hopeful that with a bit of luck we would hold our own against Kerry and Cork. Meath have got better with every League game (and like I said, we are a team in heavy training). And we have conceded only 20 points in the last three games (7, 6 and 7) so the defence isn't that bad really. Lastly I cannot stress enough the importance of Croke Park to Meath. The wide open spaces is worth three or four points to them. If we're back in the form of 2007 which I'm confident we will be, then we'll win Leinster and take a bit of stopping thereafter.

I know ya might call me biaed, but i think that Mayo have a real chance this year. They havent done the best in the nfl this year, but its early days. The under 21s are doin mighty and aidan o shea is a real great prospect for mayo this summer(if the aussies dont take him by them). Though loyaltotheroyal, i think galway have a fair chance as well this year. Their defence is weak but they have some good players and so they compensate for their poor defence
