I've always found Leo Varadkar to be very knowledgable, well-spoken and articulate.
And hopefully one day, the Taoiseach.

An utter gimp IMO. Oh! he may be all you said, all of which is sooo smooth from the opposition benches but himself, or his ilk, won't tomorrow or in 20 years hence cut it in rural Ireland.*
"Leo Varadker, the Fine Gael leader, was today chased with pitchforks from a rally in Ballinamore" screams the Leitrim Observer sometime in the future......

True, in fairness, true. You need a cute hoor of a Dub, or else a lad from the country, to run this country. Someone that is "one with the people". Something Enda is most definitely not.

Re: Gear Grinder of the Year...2nd. Quarter Final.
Dave Fanning is whiney, monotonous and boring but harmless. Leo is not a gear grinder, he never even engages them before he speaks. Jedward too are to be pitied in much the same way Frankenstein was when Shelley first created it. Joanne, not a hope, nowhere near a gear grinder. Leaving Vincent, in another heat a sure winner: and the insufferable, dangerous, mealy mouthed, obsequious, sycophantic, rabble rouser. A clear winner, and should walk the whole competition. Which would probably please him.
As we say in Kerry 'there is none so blind as those that cannot see but I'd rather be deaf than listen to Liveline.'

Re: Gear Grinder of the Year...2nd. Quarter Final.
I can honestly say if I say Jedward crossing the road I'd push down on the accelerator.
They represent everything that is wrong with culture today. Self-obsession gone mad, celebrating mediocracy and proof that idiot masses resent anyone who appears to be intelligent, good-looking or talented and instead prefer to idolise any gobsh*te who can actually make them feel even a tiny bit more smart/beautiful/talented (see Jade Goody as a prime example).
That said Joe Duffy is one of the greatest evils in Irish society. No matter how crazy the complaint, Joe will try to make a mountain out of the molehill. Claims to be the voice of the nation, but is merely a voice for the unemployable crackpots who constantly ring in so somebody will listen to their ramblings. The only reason his show even gets noticed by sane people is that RTE insist on proclaiming it's importance to anyone and everyone in some of the most blatant self-promotion they can come up with (and RTE have plenty of experience of self-promotion).
I doubt there is anybody more full of his own self-importance.
Vincent Browne seems to see himself as some sort of messiah, standing up to authority whenever he can and always looking out for the little guy. In reality he comes across as a bit of a sad little old man, always complaining about whatever the "establishment" does or advocates, mainly in an effort to get attention.

Wow are you a psychologist? So its reverse psychology then? I agree with this to an extent but unfortunately because people have become lazy and have closed their minds instead of broadening them this will be the result. So I don't blame the Jedwards or the Jades or the others. They are making money on it (and their 'handlers' are making more). It also makes for cheap TV and so suits the broadcasters. I mean did you ever see such utter thrash as this year for Xmas. They didn't even show Wonderful Life. But your Duffy choice is spot on - that kind of stuff is anything but harmless and is all about cashing in on people's misery, misfortune etc while pretending to care.

Dave Fanning and Vincent Browne should not be on that list. They are pillars of society. Brings the whole Gear Grinder enterprise down a notch to see men of such esteem included on the ballot here.
