Charity Fight Night
What's your views on this, a bit of craic for a good cause or a dangerous activity for fellas with little or no experience? We're holding one over Christmas in Monaghan and it should be a great night. Every club will have a player involved and there will be a few county players involved as well as a number of local "cult heroes" who would be reknown for their brute force and ignorance!
Dick Clerkin is Currin's representative and the word is he's taking it very seriously, sparring with Fergal Doherty as preparation!

Re: Charity Fight Night
Was at one on Saturday night MMM, great sport altogether. The opening bout (3 rounds of 90 secs) set the tone for the night with an hammer and tongs affair that set the trend. Everyone going for the head shots until about the 5th fight when one boyo landed a thumper to the bread-basket. Christ, all we were missing was your man's dinner. The legs turned to jelly and be tottered about the ring (like myself after a skinful). The ref stopped it on the spot, but the from going into the ring as Dermot (The Bull) O'Shea, he retired as Dermot (Wobbles) O'Shea.
Very professionally run by a guy called Harry McGavock. The clubs involved guaranteed ticket sales of 600 @ €25 totalling €15k out of which the promoters took €9k. They actually sold 925 tickets but the boys were happy with €15k.
Great set up. big head guards and heavy gloves minimise the damage exposure.
They were 3 neighbouring and reasonably friendly clubs in a joint venture, but I'd like to see ourselves get into a similar venture with Aughnasheelin and Mohill to settle some old scores.....

There's been no oul' aggression hereabouts for nearly 2 months and we're getting bored looking at water all day...
1,000 rural mucksavages, in the one hotel, on a winter's night, for 6 hours...no wonder the bars ran out.....

Aye Boxty, it should be good craic. There's always the danger though of something unsavoury on the night which could lead to bad blood between clubs! It's fairly possible, I know of a couple of potential match-ups which would be eventful to say the least!
