Totally agree, the last 2 times Derry played Kerry Kevin Mc Cloy (Who this season is at best an average player reaching the end of his footballing career) absolutley roasted him. he is a good fielder of the ball but not a good overall player.

Re: Football team of the decade
Personally I think Donaghy is already the best mid fielder in Ireland, and well ahead of the pack as a full forward. His all round football skills, brain and awareness make him special.
But back to my team.
Half backs are:
Tomas O'Se McGeeney and my favourite Tyrone man Jordan.
I could go for a few others in the centre but the respect Geezer carried made him extra special.

Full back line;
Mark O'Se Moynihan Lockhart
So I am now up to
McGreevy
M.O'Se Moynihan Lockhart
T O'Se McGeeney Jordan
McGrane D. O'se
........ ..... ......
Gooch Donaghy Canavan
So I need a half forward line. McGourty, O'Sullivan, McDonald, Dooher, Joyce, Donnellan, Galvin, Marsden, lots to pick from.

Go to the thread " boring students" GF is studying psychology so if you haven't already signed up, do so with alacrity. Spaces are limited.
Otherwise go Dooher, Joyce, Donnellan...and to repeat myself, your'e a gas man....

The house is all electric, I do not follow this "gas" reference.
In August in Clancy's in GlenFarne I discovered what "Boxty" is, or think I did. Is it potato bread?
As or my team, well I cannor resist saying to hell with teamwork and therefore I am playing McDonald. And O'Sullivan has to be there, so only one place left.

Dooher.
If I have McDonald for vision, strength and outright genius, and O'Sullivan to run with the ball, well Dooher or galvin is the perfect compliment.

Re: Football team of the decade
Guys for anyone interested Gaelic Life are currently running a competition to pick the football team of the decade. It doesn't cost anything to enter and there are decent enough prizes.
May as well give it a go sure you've nothing to lose.
the link if anyone wants to participate is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Loyal it is a bit restricted i agree and some of the players listed are a joke but thats Gaelic life for you - mind you Brian Farrell wouldn't make it onto too many teams of the decade me thinks - no offence

Re: Football team of the decade
think its fair to say most teams will be made from kerry, tyrone, armagh and to a lesser extent galway, dublin and cork. would be some craic if a few of us won the weekends away. bit of a session in offaly.

Re: Football team of the decade
Donaghy made his debut in 2005, was fairly anonymous until the latter part of the 2006 season and was injured for a lot of 2009 campaign. I would also leave out Canavan. He played from 1989 onwards. He played in less than half this decade. In 2005, he was used for the most part as an impact sub.
Now that is not to take from either of their abilities but some of the lads mentioned here, would've played a part in every championship this decade and would be more worthy of their place for example Tomás Ó Sé or Ciaran Whelan or Enda Muldoon.

Re: Football team of the decade
i see your point shinners but peter canavan was tyrones talisman until 2003 and in 2004 played some great football too.
in 05 yes he was used sparingly but when we needed pullin out of the fire he was our go to man and he scored 1-1 in the final plus the winning point v armagh.
i dunno if he would make the team just on the basis that i think all player of the years should make the cut and this is where the wee man will be let down in the gaelic lifes team of the decade hes up against some tough opposition, several havin won player of the year in 2000 -2009.
but hand on heart he would make my team but picking a team you think the "experts" would pick might mean he wont make my team for the competition
