Some team alright Clash. I think I might find a spot for Bobby Moore though - and Messi on the bench, possibly Eusebio. I'd imagine the older guys would mention Puskas, Matthews, Di Stefano - legends but before our time.

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
I never seen Pele play live. But how much of his greatness owed to the fact that Carlos Alberto, Revelino, Tostoa and Jairzinho and other such greats played alongside him when he lined out for Brazil? I've only seen clips and he looked exceptional but was he the best?
One clip I must mention is when the opposition goalie came out to meet the ball rolling towards him. Pele ran in and looked as if he would no something with it but he let the ball keep rolling. It rolled past the goalie and Pele went the opposite side of the goalie and met the ball. He took his shot from an unbelievably acute angle but unfortunetely I think it hit the side netting.

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
That was a special move alright Loyal, would have been a fantastic goal. Such an innovative and intelligent idea, no-one had seen anything like it before I'd imagine.

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
Yep - never tire of seeing it and every time I do I hope it goes in!! Against Uruguay in the '70 World Cup it was and despite the angle being so tight Pele pulled it across the face of the goal ....... just!

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
I would say that Maradona was better than Pele, he almost single handedly won the world cup. If he had had the professionalism of Pele I'm sure there would be no doubt of him being the best, unfortunately he lost the run of himself at times. Thanks min mon didn't know you could embed videos.

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
I thought his other goal in that game defined what a genius he was. How we even had the cheek to try it.
But that was a terrific goal too, would make the hairs of your neck stand up. Jimmy "Michelle is innocent" Magee could have done better with the commentary though.

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
Yeah it's the age-old debate isn't it, Pele or Maradona. Both brilliant players, the top 2 ever in most peoples eyes, but still difficult to judge as they played in different eras and both have a very strong claim to being the best. Maradona really did lead Argentina to that world cup almost single-handedly, and also was the driving force behind Napoli's best ever spell in the 80's when he was spectacular. It's a hard one to judge.
But when we're talking about the best ever players, surely this lad can also have a shout?

Re: Greatest Soccer XI
Didn't Dessie Farrell do a similiar thing for Dublin once? Nearly split the crossbar in two when the goal was wide open. Can't remember when.

What about poor old Martin Palermo three penalty misses in one match for Argentina.
