Re: Armagh Manager
Things are getting really desperate in Armagh - they are trying to persuade Oisin Mc Conville to return
bit of a step backwards there if you ask me - what odds would you get on him playing next year

Re: Armagh Manager
anyone see the season ticket programme last night? thought Oisin came across very well. He said he doubts it if he ever plays for Armagh again. I think if he did come back the main reason would be to hit free kicks because we have nobody to hit frees. If he was fit and injury free he could still do a job, however it would have to be in the full forward line.

go on, it shows how the lovely clean cut butter wouldnt melt in their mouths kerry footballers dragging him to the ground for the penalty, it shows the kerry keeper cheating by being on his 6 yard line by the time the penalty was kicked. All the cheating was not enough to keep the good man down, it also shows the wonder goal that dragged armagh back into the 2002 final. I know the kerry people are very bitter about defeat but it really is worth watching.

How are there so many posts on this thread? It's amazing. Armagh are on about the same level as Laois or Westmeath now, why would anyone be bothered discussing their manager.

Not bitter at all, we've lost 18 All-Ireland finals so we're well used to it. What's in the past is in the past. Our record with Armagh even in recent years sides with us. Beat ye in a semi-final, lost to ye in a final and then Paul Galvin POTY beat ye in a quarter on his own.

oh yes the famous quarter final. If it had of been an Armagh or Tyrone player doing what Galvin did that day they would have been sent off in the first 10 minutes and would probably still be suspended. No gripes about 2000 semi finals. Classic games. Oisin hitting 1-9 of Moynihan "the great"

why because he revealed the sort of crap mcmenamin, gormley and dooher come out with during games to wind opponents up.

I don't mind McGeeney too much but Bellew is a different kettle of fish. And more to do with his playing style down through the years than just his encounters with Kerry. And Mickey Linden was one of my favourite players when I was growing up, so that altercation didn't help.
But, for what it's worth, I dislike McMenamin and Canavan more. I've heard first hand what they do to gain an advantage and it's just not sport.
Likewise, I'm sure someone could say the same to me about Galvin, O' Mahoney, Darragh, etc.

Really dont know, i wouldnt like to think that any Armagh player would come out with the likes that they were supposed to have. Oisin says himself in his book that there is always a certain amount of it goes on in every game but he said he never encountered anything like the things that they would have said. funny that the amount of games he has played throughout his life all over ireland both at club and county level and the people he mentions all came from the same team. You many say that he had something against Tyrone but the reality is Tyrone are famous for it and Mickey bible basher harte clearly sees nothing wrong with it.

i have to say Samin i find all this chat about what the Tyrone players are suppose to have said a bit ironic - especially considering most people who dont appear to approve of it seem oblivious to the fact that its not a new phenomenon and its not confined to the county of Tyrone Ireland - this talking in the ear has been around for years and most teams be it club or county have a few boys who are at it.
Tyrone are famous for it - FFS catch yourself just because 1 player does it doesn't mean you suddenly become famous for it, if that was the case Armagh would be infamous for following in with the knee after a tackle - the other point is just because Mc Conville said it do we actually know that it was said, after all he was trying to sell a book.
What i find most amusing about him though is this idea that the Tyrone lads behaviour was unacceptable - coming from a guy with his reputation and the antics he got up to off the field i think its bullshit of the highest order.

antics that he got up to off the field? You talking about the Gambling or the vicious rumours that Dooher felt the need to bring up to him that he had apparently beat the crap out of the McEntee's sister? Would love a few examples of Armagh following in with the knee, McMenamin is the only person that i can remember making the headlines for that. McConville is not likely to name two or three players personally in order to sell a book, i think he has enough of a story to tell without needing incidents like that to help sell a book, if that was the case why single them out? As for every team does it etc. Refer to my earlier post. Also the two McMahons in last years final were at exactly the same thing, obviously dont know what was said but it was clear they were at it. I think Mickey Harte holds classes on how to insult people and wind them up once the boys get dried off after their diving classes in Dungannon swimming pool.

its amazing that the Tyrone boys are guilt yof all this in your eyes but the Armagh boys are saints. Are you denying that he hit a woman???
And as for following in witht he knee are you goign to tell me that it wasnt one of Francies traits that when the player went to ground Francie didnt follow in with a knee round the ribs or in the middle of the back.
i cant see what the big deal is about talking in someones ear during a game - its no different than holding a jersey or a punch in the ribs - its all done to gain an advantage and you cant tell me Armagh are not guilty of that.
All very amusing if you ask me.

would expect nothing else from a Tyrone man, slagging peoples mothers and sisters to gain an advantage is amusing? Says more about you than it does about me.
I couldnt tell you if he has ever hit a woman, i remember a similar rumour going round about Graham Geraghty which by all accounts turned out to be rubbish. The rumour about McConville was that he was supposed to have beat up the twin McEntee's sister which i would be pretty confident is rubbish considering they put in a bit at the start of his book, one of them was on the show the other night talking about the great friend that he was. I wouldnt say that about someone who beat the crap out of my sister, would you? Maybe you would as you seem to find other scumbag actions amusing.

Sam, your condemnation of unsavoury behaviour is commendable however your denial that your own county has its own guilty past in this area is a joke.
