New Casement Park the new second gaa stadium in ireland?
The new state of the art 40k seater will be sure to be an excellent venue, would it be ideal to bid to host the u21 football and hurling finals? Maybe a hurling semi or football quarter?
It seems like its nearing all the time with the county web site talking about this years finals being the last in "old casement", surely this new stadium can host a range of matches which look silly in croke but still require a easy access venue with the capacity and state of the art facilities which croke offer.
What do people think?
I know i will get the city haters on here! but sure! Maybe a few of the dubs will back me up on this one!

It might be suitable for an All-Ulster Quarter-Final / Semi-Final in the future. But teams like Meath, Kildare, & Dublin wouldn't take kindly to being asked to play a game at that stage of the competition up the north. Likewise the journey is long enough as it is for Kerry & Cork, and the hurling counties. The u21 finals are typically played in a neutral venue equally accessible to both sets of supporters - rules out Casement given that there will be at least one county from Leinster/Connacht/Munster in both finals. Best of luck to Antrim and Ulster, but I don't see it replacing the more centrally located Semple Stadium as the GAA's second home any time soon.

Remember hearing once that GAA events in the North are subject to VAT at 17.5% although games in the South are exempt - Not sure if this is an "urban Myth" but was always one of those reasons thrown about why the GAA- tried wherever possible to use Clones - and the reason why Breffni gets a good share of neutral games in the qualifiers

Bottom line is loyal it will be more of a money maker to the GAA being state of the art and all that! With the road structure being what it is, im sure teams from leinster or connaught could travel, antrim have traditionally played neutral games all over from offaly to dublin and only for arguing where nearly dragged to thurles to play.
Meath are an hour from belfast so id say that the argument of their supporters not wanting to come to it would be non runner.
As for the under 21 final being selected to accomodate the supporters, what about tipp galway, was selected as the venue long before the final pairing was decided, slightly unfair on galway and yet again maybe they would have prefered to play in belfast.
The system of suiting the fans has to go, we have great stadiums which should all be used, limerick, Galway, Omagh, clones, armagh, cork these games need rotated around or croke park wont be too long in wearing out if we dont make the most of these stadiums for quarters/semis! With all the games not being rotated the gaa will be excused when the spend near millions on new seats etc!

Not only that but in terms of promoting hurling going to the weaker counties is a must, the fans will travel if they really want to follow!
Breff is a great ground compared to what it used to be now days!

Meath an hour from Belfast? You must have purchased your most recent vehicle from Cape Canaveral?
You are also not being realistic if you think people will travel to Belfast because the game is being played in a state of the art stadium. What about additional fuel costs, tolls on the M1, the neccessity to stop for food, and new parking surroundings?
Take a Meath-Westmeath All-Ireland Quarter Final (as was the case in 2001) or a Meath-Cork All-Ireland Semi-Final (2007) - the only possible venue for either of these games is Croke Park. Move it to Belfast, and the size of crowd would at least be halved.

Do you think it would have got more in croke though omar?
I think its about time the gaa put the breaks on this, if we all really want a central venue build it in athlone, which is totally rediculous, thing is, casement the new form will provide hotels, accomodation, a motor way system which links up at an all ireland level, train network, pubs, restaurants etc, where else can provide this yes dublin but at what cost to the association?
People will pay a fortune to go to race meetings all over ireland, derry city soccer fans or cork city on the opposite scale fork out a fortune travelling to games, we have thousands of gaa fans who go to old trafford, park head, and some even go to rugby in france and london some of the most expensive places in the world.
Belfast will be able to cater for all in the new ground, and im sure they have given assurances to the british administration that they will put the games there also, not to mention the millions which is coming out of the gaa's own pocket!

There was less than 1500 Dublin fans - might have got a few more in Croker

Re: New Casement Park the new second gaa stadium in ireland?
i hope to feck casement does not even get Ulster finals. Great Pubs, feeding spots, hotels etc in City centre. Few decent pubs around Casement but not many. Parking is a nightmare, too many cars broken into or stolen. No atmosphere around the ground, everyone in and out of area as fast as possible. Arrive 10 minutes before game and away as quick as possible after. I know you NSG that you think i am anti Belfast but i am not. I'm sure the new stadium will be great but for a day out, atmosphere etc it just does not cut it at all.
