Small teams taking on the big teams Empty Small teams taking on the big teams

What games over the past few years have proven to be the best examples of David vs Goliath?

The sickening one for me was the defeat at the hands of Fermanagh in 2004 and then the too close for comfort Fermanagh game in 2008 as well as this year against Wicklow... two teams in Ireland that have never won a senior provincial title.

Westmeath beat a fairly decent Dublin team in the 2004 Leinster Championship before going on to win that province. Dublin were prone to a lot of scares in their first championship game of the year under Pillar - Longford frightened them badly once.

Meath lost Qualifiers to Fermanagh twice, Cavan once, Laois once (in Navan though Laois were quite good in 2006) and Limerick once in the mid-noughties - all humbling losses for a team that still contained several All-Ireland winners. And it took yet another Ollie Murphy lifeline to take Leitrim to extra-time in 2005 Qualifiers Round 2 - the last of the great "Ollie" performances. Has a player even pulled as many games out of the fire?

2006 in Pairc Taliteann sticks out when Louth took an injury ravaged Tyrone to a replay. I also have Cavan drawing with Tyrone sometime between 2004 and 2006 too?

Kerry and Cork have all avoided shock defeats until recently but Limerick threw games away many, many times - in particular one Munster Final, possibly 2004? When it went to a replay.

Biggest shock in last ten years - Dublin "drawing" with Meath in 2007. Meath were blatantly the better team but some shocking refereeing cost us.

Cork were also beaten by Fermanagh in the qualifiers. Not sure what year.

Limerick beat Kerry a couple of times in the last decade, they just couldn't beat Kerry

That must have been the day that Dublin ceased being a "little team".......

The All Ireland Final appearance has really got to you.
I suppose it is very similiar to Dublin and Kerry.

Yes Kerry have had the upper hand on Dublin for a long time,as for the All-Ireland getting to me,I was growing up when Dublin were contesting All-Ireland's every year...Nothing new to me maybe the younger Dubs....
