Hurricane Higgins
RIP to Alex Higgins
Truly a sporting genius
Certainly has his demons but I suppose thats what made him enigmatic and unique.
Says it all that whenever there is "dead time" on the world final coverage they usually fill it with hurricanes wonder break.
Remains more of a memory in his sport that the many that went after and that won more.
Played pool with him in a "lock in" in the Pineapple pub in Lambeth in 1994.
At last he is at peace - and thanks for the memories

Re: Hurricane Higgins
Had a brief sojourn in a local of mine in Dublin. Came across him a few times and can't say he was a nice guy. Great player alright but ... Still, RIP.

Re: Hurricane Higgins
For pure natural talent Alex was arguably second only to Ronnie, although obviously others made better use of their talent.
Unlike Besty who always had something about him despite all his faults, Alex was not a nice guy. Used to see him sometimes in Manchester, once memorably, and recently saw him everyday as he drank and gambled across the road from my work place.
A legendary talent who could be credited with "making" snooker along with the advent of colour TV.

Dennis Taylor was arrested and questioned about Higgins death as there was ill feeling between the 2 after Higgins threatened to have Taylor shot years ago - Taylor however claims he was framed

Re: Hurricane Higgins
Alex Higgins is to be buried in a peaceful corner of a cemetary. Beside him will be a chinaman, at the otherside a jamaican and in front of him an Indian.
A family spokesman has said he is completely snookered behind the yellow, black and brown.
