Is the GAA failing the Christy Ring/Nicky Rackard/Lory Meagher Cups?
Good Christy Ring Cup and is the GAA failing these counties?
The christy ring cup looks to be going well so far, not suprising after the brilliant final last year. This year weve had cracking games between Down and Derry, weve had Derrys continued improvement and Mayo what can you say on them in the last view years since the new hurling format has been introduced. It must be exciting to be a hurling person from Armagh or Sligo or Mayo now days given how well theyve been going.
I really feel the GAA has failed these hurling counties given lack of sponsorship and press coverage even a highlights programme would be better than nothing.
Am i being harsh on the GAA's lack of drive for these competitions or are they failing these counties?

not one bit your on the button.
all they hve done is geared up towards the big boys and not listened to the rest.
Point 1 Leinster Champ
Allow in Galway & Antrim exclude Westmeath, Carlow and Meath you also have Kildare coming on as well- good few of these players actually ply there trade in other counties I know Buffers Alley (United Nationas of the GAA world in Wexford anyway) who beat Ourlart (the supposed kingpins at the present of Wex club hurling) had 2 Kildare players starting for them.
l.ook at the leinster leagues teams from Carlow/Westmeath even Wicklow continually beat Wexford/Kilkenny/Offaly teams.
They are denying this lads the chance to play the All Ireland champs, remember a cople of years ago the Cats went up to mulingar for a first round game. Not too long ago Wexford played Carlow (think we may of been Leinster Champs at the time).
2 Ulster - Antrim a bye into Final - wrong on all accounts so no-one gets to catch them on the hop.
3 Munster overrated enough said they seem to dictate but do they really care past the own mirco championship look at kerrys treatment all for the lourve of the Game.
4 Connaught get a chasmpionship going there and make arule you can't have 15 from Galway on the railway cup team.
But before all that look at the club structures, not to sure on these figures but take donegal only about 4/5 hurling clubs if even Burt, Senta are the only two I can name. Get development officers in there and build from the ground up, instead of pumping silly money into the likes of Wexford etc where the game is strong(ish) and get people up of their butts to do something.
believe it or not that was done in Wexford for football only for a few people like Seamus Keevans RIP football would be dead in Wexford. They saw the need and got up and did it- such as he set up 7 cups for wexford collage football, two u-10 county wide tournaments Kent and PF tournaments. He also set up the Jim Byrne cup minor where the winners when to England. He got no help only hinderance for the county board and unfortunately that will be case in a lot of these other counties for people looking to promote hurling

I don't see the point in teams like Westmeath and Carlow getting hammered by 30 points or more by the likes of Galway and Kilkenny how can that be good for morale. I think teams should play teams of a similar level and when they improve and are too good for the other teams in that competition then move them up to the next level.

Clash
How do you propose they measure themselves to know if their good enough?
The relegation system at present would not be accepted in anyother sport in the world, the team that wins the second tier must play the team bottom of the top tier. Now there isnt much between Carlow CRC Champs and Laois last years LMcC bottom team why where Carlow not given the chance to measure themselves? Why where they not given a preseason to work hard and play challenges against the top teams to prepare? Why did they have to play the stupid relegation play off fortnight after winning the cup? This is failing these counties and you cant deny it!
On my other point the coverage these competitions get is a disgrace, who ever buys the all ireland semis should have a responsibility to show these games also, they should be on radio regarless of venue or amounts of people at the game its the only fair way to promote these counties as hurling counties. Again you cannot deny this is failing these counties clash can you?

Clash poppycock in one word.
do you support an english football team, what if they weren't allowed play against man u because they were a division 3 team not a premier thing team. cup competition should allow you compet against the best.
Think of the crows in Mullingar if Westmeat drew any of the following Wexford/Galway or Kilkenny , the same with Carlow.
to deny them is wrong because correct me if I'm wrong aren't they from the provience of Leinster and shouldn't they get a chance to rate themselves againstthe best.

I agree the relegation system is unfair and should be changed but I don't see what use it is to the bigger counties to be giving the weaker hurling counties an awful beating. I was at matches where Galway beat Antrim by over 30 points (happenend a few times) and these were awful matches, it told Galway nothing about their team.

I cannot help but feel the need to again highlight this issue. I was on the gaa web site this morning looking for results etc when i discovered on the rte site that mayo had won yesterday against a fancied Kildare side. This lack of coverage is stopping short of kicking mayo hurling people in the face for there brilliant work.
They have covered an injury story on cork footballers and an interview with the limerick football manager, with all due repsect to the cork footballers and mickey ned sullivan i think these counties deserve slightly better.
Mr Cooney you are now in post and can now carry on what sean kelly started for these counties please dont neglect them the way Nicky Brennan has.

NSG welcome to the real world. It has gone to the stage where we are copying or taking influences from other games/sports thst we really are hurting our own. We have created an elite division for 12 hurling counties and made it impossible for a "weak" county to advance / get promoted and once there they will be given no space to grow or nurture its either sink or swim.
To many people get to vote on issues that have no concern to them a good example was including Antrim & Galway in Leinster- Leinster was by in large against it BUT the rest of the country voted it in.
Ring/Rackard/Meagher cups are treated with token jestures are as the minor and U-21 champs.
Media only interested in big boys, croke park only interested in the big boys so they get over there hallow 32K people.
By right chrisy ring cup should br played before All -Ireland.
Rackard and Meagher before both semi's, would this not give those counties abosst and also recongiation as well having there big day on a big day.
