GAA the recession and expenses
The gaa is at the minute talking of reducing addmission prices including into matches.I know theyve reduced them into the league finals. But we now have a situation of matches not going to even have as many supporters as last year, and last year was poor. They need to cut ticket prices on half. They need to section croker to have cheaper tickets ie the upper canal end, its not fair to pay the same as a front row hogan on the 65. All grounds should have cheaper sections behind the goals, the day of seat or terrace price has changed and we need a new ticketing system.
The point other is the cost of insurance for clubs the clubs are having to raise membership fees and other costs to keep in line with expenses, they are putting working class clubs in trouble. This also needs addressed for example the insurance company used who got them and are they giving the best deal? The GAA use to be for everyone but now were going into an era where a child will have to pay to play a game which is suppose to be an Irish past time not an Irish Expense.

Re: GAA the recession and expenses
This issue has been touched on in the duel counties thread.
The GAAs response to the economic downturn has been less than impressive, lethargic and somewhat begrudging, something it at least shares in common with the Government.
I might be wrong but I dont seem to remember any of the GAA chief bigwigs offering to take paycuts(are they even on the levy?). Im led to believe that Christy Cooney is on a more than fair salary something he no doubt inherited from all his selfless work with the good people of FÁS. This while they wash their hands and cock their worthy noses in collective aloof grandeur of the whole players grants affair (as if its nothing to do with them and their 'Amateur organization'.)

NSG, mossbags is going to have a laugh a this but here we go.
Most grounds do have cheaper sections Hill compared to Cusack, Cusack (if student, family, OAP) to hogan. Davin/Cusack should be cheaper than the other two i agree using croker as an example.
on insurance don't get me started, in wexford Club insurance was raised by a whopping 78% and before any contradicts I am totally in the loop regarding these matters.
to insurse a team is now €1000 where as a few years ago it was believe it or not £200 that is correct.
To afliate players to insure them was £1 noe its €2 (unless player, official affliated they are not insured).
Public liability increased.
We all got stung for a thing called hirers insurance, even if you don't hire out your premises or not.
At least underage insurance didn't increase still €1200 to insure all teams.
Various other bits and pieces. to sum it up to run an average club these days you are looking at between €45k to €60K its a small business now.
Then you have other things to pay for matches, etc so you can see why tthe recession is hitting people will look after there own club first and county second I think. I know that is the way a few of my friends are thinking (please note they are not all from my club but various different clubs) think attendences wil be down big time this year
