Young Player of the Year
As we enter July, I think it's appriopiate to start on thread on the young stars that have emerged in 2012. Here's a list of the leading contenders:
Donal Keoghan (Meath)
Has developed a reputation as being a ruthless corner-back with a great eye for dispossessing any arrogant corner-forwards. Another performance like the one the other day and he could be favourite for young player of the year award.
Bryan Menton (Meath)
Like most great Meath defenders, the word consistent springs to mind. Has filled several voids in the Meath defence in 2012 including 3, 4, 6, 7 but it was his performance on Sunday deputising for the injured Kevin Reilly that has caught the eye of experts.
Donnacha Tobin (Meath)
Half-back in jersey number only - he has such a range of skills that he could probably play anywhere. When he wasn't surging forward against Kildare, he was back making like very difficult for Kildare forwards. Probably the moment of the championship when he soared highest to catch a Meath kickout at the end of the first-half.
Damian Carroll (Meath)
One full seventy minutes on national television and already he's earning comparisons to a former Meath great, Trevor Giles. A few more performances like that one and he could easily out-do Giles' three AllStars and two Player of the Year awards. Must be favourite for to be crowned young player of the year right now.

There have been many false dawns .....
Connolly's lapse may be Kilkenny's opportunity - watch for this lad.

l. I have been keeping a close eye on Donncha Tobin over the past few years. Showed his potential from minor stage and has developed into an outstanding half back. Slightly biased as I am related to him.

i think if graham geraghty made a come back he might be up for this too!
the young fella at midfield on sunday looked handy but the winner of this will play in an allireland semi final at least.
