Gaelic Games in Leeds, Yorkshire
Anyone coming to Leeds or the surrounding area is welcome to check out St. Benedicts Harps: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] 2011 saw the club win the Yorkshire Junior Championship, Yorkshire under 21's and the Pennine League division 2. This year the club will play in Division 1 of the Pennine League, the only club in Leeds to do so, as well as all competitions organised by the Yorkshire County Board. We have a great social life within the club and can help with accommodation and work. Our club is made of people from all over Ireland as well as locally born talent who have come up through our under-age structure and have an excellent back-room team. If you're looking for an ambitious club who want to win trophies as well as have good time doing it, look no further.

I'm assuming that Bald Eagle and the Predator of Pocklington have given their imprimatur for this "Come play with us" canvass....

Not at all Boxty, i don't think we should be endorsing recruitment calls from any clubs on this site to be honest

Don't think its a bad thing. If thre happens to be someone browsing and they are made aware of the existence of a GAA club nearby sure where's the harm. Sure there's some here who post plenty but still add nothing to the site. Ain't that right Puke?

St. Benedicts Harps v CuChullains - Pennine League Div. 1.
Game played in excellent conditions with Anthony throwing the ball in on time for a 13 aside game. Cuchullains opened the scoring with a good point from the right wing. New signing Conor Phipps returned the favour to equalise, before Cuchullains converted a penalty. Sean McMahon then pointed a free only for the Newcastle lads to go up the other end and take a second goal to leave the score 2-01 - 0-02. Cuchullains were getting the breaking ball and making good use of it by this time, before Chris McNerlin reduced the arrears with a fine point. Cuchullains tacked on another point after which Conor Phipps found the net after a quick free for St. Benedicts. Andy Mullan opened his account from midfield after a driving run only for Cuchullains to score the last two points of the half to leave the half-time score 2-04 - 1-04. Conor Phipps took a point after the restart before Cuchullains reeled off four points followed by their third goal to leave the score 3-08 - 0-05 - not looking good for the Benedicts lads. Points were swapped with Chris getting the Benedicts score before Andy, Conor and Henry Foster scored three points to leave only two goals in the game. Cuchullains found two more points only for Chris and Conor to bring the deficit back to the two goals leaving the final score 3-11 - 1-11 to the All-Britain champions.
The game left both teams with a good idea on what to work on before their games on March 25. Cuchullains play St. Peter's in Leeds, while St. Benedicts travel to St. Lawrence's. Training continues for St. Benedicts at Activezone in Morley (LS27 0HG) on Mondays at 7.30pm and Wednesdays at Roundhegians (LS8 2AT) at 8.15pm. All welcome.

How many sides are in the Pennines league, presume it is clubs from Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and a few other areas.
Think there is three adult teams in Leeds, which is fairly good going

Carnaross can correct me if i'm wrong here but i think it's 6 teams in Division 1 - St. Benedicts Harps (Leeds), CuChullainns (Newcastle), St. Brendan's (Manchester) , John Mitchel's (Liverpool), St. Lawrence's (Manchster) and St. Peter's (Manchester) and 8 in Division 2 - JFK (Leeds), St. Anne's (Manchester), Young Ireland's (Leeds), Oisins (Manchester), Wolfe Tones (Liverpool), Hugh O'Neill's (Leeds), St. Pat's (Chester), Bros. Pearse (Huddersfield).
Teams all play in either the Lancashire and Yorkshire leagues but not all are from Yorkshire or Lancashire.

Good man Sean, I never recalled him as a free-taker, but perhaps he has improved with age! Glad to hear he is still playing a bit of football though. The younger brother wasn't a bad player, before he gave it up to become a thespian...

An easy mistake to make, Boxty.
True story, a lady in the church choir died a couple of years ago. At the funeral, the priest praised the Dead's love of music and the arts, hailing her as a great thespian. A week later, at choir practice, when the dead lady was being remembered by her former choir-mates (including my mother), another old lady in the whispers in my mother's ear: 'For years I stood beside Rosie in this choir, and never realised until last week that she, you know, liked other women!'

Re: Gaelic Games in Leeds, Yorkshire
Yorkshire did well? Don't think so, two guys accepted the county management role at Feb's Co board meeting stating they would organise training etc. This was agreed, however, not one session was arranged so, consequently, Yorks did not field in their first game. Despite there still being no training, they did field and beat Scotland in Newcastle, they failed to field against London who now play Lancashire in the final. This was a disgrace with absolutely no input from the management, so how could the county perform?
As for the competition itself, it needs to be totally revamped. Playing the whole thing over one weekend would create much more interest - they can do it for the under-age and universities, so why not for the adults too? With only seven counties, it shouldn't be too difficult to organise!

Schoolboy error, got you mixed up with Herts for some reason (Saturday morning hangover!) as they ran London close.
Said something similar about the championship on the UK GAA thread, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Something needs to be done to freshen it up and condense it as its too drawn out and puts too much pressure on smaller counties to field. They need to either revamp it or end it altogether in my book!

St. Benedicts add the Yorkshire Junior League title to the Junior Championship after beating JFK's 3-13 - 2-14 yesterday. Roll on the Senior League and Championship.
