Re: RIP Patrique
Very sad news indeed. I knew he had been unwell, but had no idea how serious it was. A man who had strong views on just about everything and, unlike the vast majority of us on these forums, wasn't afraid to put his name to them. I always admired him for that. An intelligent and helpful man, who knew who he was and was very comfortable with it.
Really very sad to hear this - shocked and very sad. Rest in Peace, Paddy.

Re: RIP Patrique
Shocking news indeed. I would like to echo the words of the previous posters in paying tribute to the late Paddy RIP.
An intriguing poster, frequently tongue in cheek, but always erudite, calculated and frequently quite witty in a quirky fashion.
Opinionated, straight as a dye (in reality), fearless and proud of his heritage, Paddy will be missed the length and breath of the island.
The bed of Heaven to his noble soul.....

Very sad news. Commiserations to all who had known Patrique.
I was only aware of him through his posts here and elsewhere and he was one of my favourite posters.
58 is a young age too. But he had seen a heck of a lot in those years - probably most unfortunate though is that he never seen Antrim reach GAA's Holy Grail in either code. A sporting enthusiast and a devoted Antrim supporter is how I would sum him up.
R.I.P. Patrique.

Wow.. Genuinely shocked and saddened by this. I thought the hip problem was at him but I never knew he was so sick. It feels like the loss of a friend.. The world has lost a great character and a noble guy. Condolences to his family and friends.
Rest in Peace Pat..

Shocked by this! He contributed to the website on a regular basis and was here from the start. At times he could really annoy people but most knew it was in jest and no doubt he would have a chuckle to himself at the other end of the keyboard. It was great having him on here! Feels weird because t does feel like a family member has died

Can't believe the news i've just read, a great poster and a man of principles and strong belief. Can't believe i'm as gutted as i am to hear of the passing of someone i've never met apart from via cyberworld. I've missed his posts recently and will miss them greatly in the future. As someone previously said here, it somehow feels like the loss of a friend. RIP Pat.

Very sad news
Enjoyed reading his posts and his contrarion angle on most topics - from Antrim hurling to Tyrone football - to Bildergurg conspiracies to the wilds of westport - the working mans clubs of manchester - his exploits on the the cricket greens of lancashire - and his forest Gumpesque knack of being in the midst of almost every key moment in the history of Northern Ireland.
Safe passage and Slán

RIP Paddy.
Hugely intelligent man and very sad news. Half expect him to come on here and contradict the news because that's just what he'd do. Hard to believe to be honest, and very sad.

Re: RIP Patrique
If you said black, he’d say white
If you said wrong, he’d say right
If you said day, he’d say night
If you said dark, he’d say light.
Abhorred inequity, greed, injustice
Those vices treated with disdain
The worker was the only king
In Paddy McGinley’s domain.
Champion of many a cause
A conscience where there wasn’t one
A relentless seeker of fairness
A voice for those who had none.
A man of different opinions
He made you question your view
He never took the narrow one
Nor would he ever let you.
A sense of mischief reigned
Much educating to be done
With wordsmith skills and insight
And always with a sense of fun.
So no more tales of Westport
Or hurling in Tyrone
No seisiúns nor no Fleadhs
The bodhrán sits alone.
No tales of camog Saffrons
Or the Manchester team in blue
No yarns of bygone heroes
Or the idols that he once knew.
So rest you well McGinley
You were truly quite unique
And may God win the odd argument
With the legend that was Patrique.

Certainly appeared to be the life of the party. Some good videos of Patrique performing in "Barneys" in Belfast on YouTube too.

RIP
A legend, pure and simple.
Whether you agreed with him or not, you always had to admire the quality of his posts.
His wumming (especially in relation to soccer) was legendary.
Will be sadly missed

Re: RIP Patrique
Some memorable links there Loyal. As some have commented here and elsewhere, it is a very surreal sensation this; a group of people who have never met, mourning the passing of another in the group, who none of us ever met either.
3 days on, I still feel very sad to think that Pat is gone, and will certainly miss his posts greatly. I think we were very fortunate on this forum as, by his own admission, this is where he was at his most sensible and posted his best offerings. This place won't be the same without him and, having seen his love of life in the Youtube videos, I'm certain the loss will be felt enormously by his family, friends and colleagues.
