RIP.
He was one of the (very) few politicians that genuinely did what they thought was in the best interests of the country as opposed to what was in their own political interest.

RIP Brian. You weren't the most popular man over the past few years but he had the toughest job in the toughest times. Rest In Peace.

Sincere sympathy to his family. Was a pleasant man. Not a very good minister but as a person outside of politics was liked a lot.R.I.P.

Re: Brian Lenihan RIP
Very very sad news. Brian Lenihan's family and friends are in my thoughts.
I had no idea his condition had worsened - so quite unexpected too.
He showed enormous courage and bravery to fulfill his duties as Minister for Finance while at the same time fighting this battle.
Rest In Peace.

Re: Brian Lenihan RIP
very sad and very sudden - to pass away at that age is way too young but sadly death and suffering is no longer reserved for the elderly. My thoughts are with his wife and children.
Regardless of what he was like as a politician he was some mothers son, some womans husband and father to two children.
RIP

Re: Brian Lenihan RIP
Rest in peace. Got the most unwanted job in the land at a bad time but tried his best with what he was given.
An engaging character outside of the Dail chamber, good fun and naturally outgoing.
The bed of Heaven to him.

Re: Brian Lenihan RIP
A remarkably courageous man. Inherited the worst financial situation the country has ever known and was asked to make decisions after 5 months in the job - while people hid the true facts. That should not be his legacy.
Faced with a terminal illness he set out trying to rectify the situation - with total honesty and integrity. He fought the war on two fronts - his own and the country's. And he never wavered. And his optimism and belief never wavered. In a world of doom and gloom and negativity, Brian always believed we would beat this problem and he would beat his. He has lost his battle but maybe his legacy is that we will make sure that Ireland doesn't lose our battle.
May he rest in peace.
