So Jack O' Connor has coaxed another former county player out of retirement in an attempt to improve Kerrys squad. When the news first broke i was surprised to say the least, dont get me wrong he is a wonderful footballer but he seemed destined to be remembered as a nearly man in a county with more than its fair share of legends. He was at his best when Kerry were winning games but he wasnt the sort of player you would look to, to take a game by the scruff of the neck and haul the team over the finishing line with a point or two to spare.
He wasnt great at tracking back and his work rate wouldnt have been of the same high standard as some of his peers on the Kerry team. And so it is even more surprising to find out that O'Connor has earmarked him to take over the Centre Half Back berth which has been somewhat problematic since it was vacated by another man coaxed out of retirement Mike McCarthy.
I wouldnt be sure Brosnan would have the discipline to play this role or the appetite and it makes me wonder what O'Connors thinking is - smacks of desperation to me - either that or its a smokecreen for something else and O' Connor has no intention of playing him as a defender. If O'Connor was that worried about the CHB role i would have thought Galvin was the man for that job............

Re: Eoin Brosnan
Would O'Connor be thinking of Brosnan for a Midfield berth? A problematic area for Kerry since Dara has left the stage and with Quirke, Maher and Moran all tried and tested an Athletic, refreshed Brosnon may be able to perform some sort of role for O'connor around the middle. I read an article recently were Brosnon himself said that he was more or less glad to have his inter county career behind him and was more content to concentrate more on the Crokes. Maybe we shouldn't believe all that is written in the papers...

Funny you should say that Jayo as he's a guy I would have had good time for. He may not have been a free-scoring forward but he has a strong physical presence and is, what we'd call a thrusting type of player. O'Connor is a shrewd operator and is, I'd say, taking the long view here. Brosnan must have something to offer in the scheme of things for this volte-face to take place...

Couldn't see him cut it at midfield and as for being refreshed well if he couldn't do it first time around and younger ... then!! Boxty - personally if we were playing Kerry I'd be glad to see him in the starting XV - he could prove me wrong though!

That could be a stick you may get beaten with come the qualifiers yet.

Hence the last clause!!!! We may not go for the qualifiers this year anyway B - terrible to see someone take our Leinster crown in such unsavoury fashion last year - we may go for it this year just to bring a bit of pride back to it .....
