Marketing of intercounty
Now i know im going on a bit today but anyway.
I think given that its been what 7/8 years since the beginning of what i believe to be brilliant competitions in the christy ring and nicky rackard cups and we still have no sponsorship, no television rights sold or given away, no ticket give aways, i could go on.
I believe sean kelly had brilliant plans for these competitions when they where introduced, however since weve had nothing, we even had the introduction of the lory meagher cup which, i believe to have been detrimental, if they wanted to give the lower teams something to play for they should have introduced a sheild for the teams knocked out in round one.
However there is little if any incentive to win, even for a while they took away promotion from carlow and westmeath.
They need sponsors to provide the winning team with a holiday or training camp, they need to play the finals in a venue with smaller capacity such as parnell park or clones so that there is atmosphere at the finals, they need to give out free tickets to thousands for finals and semi finals, give two to every school kid in the county so that they go home and demand a big brother/sister or father/mother take them to the not just the final but the first round. They need to get tg4 on board and also the bbc (ulster have many counties in this comp) get highlight programmes going.
Not enough is being done, they should make national league games from div3 and down donation to enter no admission fee to get people to start and recognise these counties, they need to be supplying free buses by a company in the away counties for free so that people can choose to go and watch their county.
These are promotional ideas and through time these counties would start to fund themselves but in the interests of promotion start to sell the idea by giving out free samples.
