GAA Entertainment - We should be eternally grateful
In the past week or so there have been three events in Dublin all of which attracted thousands of supporters
and for which the price of attendance was in the main €70+
1. AXL rose - A has been rocker with a patched up backing group that received vast amounts of cash who has the manners to leave his fans standing around scratching their proverbials for 90 mins and who throws a hissy fit when they decide to complain and presumeably only finished the gig when someone advised he would'nt get paid otherwise.
2. An international soccer match that lasted 90 mins in which a highly paid proffessional Ireland team just about scrambled 3 scores against a team that in GAA terms are a Junior B side.
3. The AI hurling finals in which we say a very entertaining- close fought 60 minutes of a minor match followed by one of the most entertaining sporting occasions that I have ever attended - A packed stadium of 82,000 - electric atmosphere - and a game packed with ferocious commitment and intent combined with moments of sublime skill and gracious sportsmanship all served up by Amateur players
When you consider the fare as outlined in 1 and 2 above that gets served up across the world and packaged as entertainment - we should be very grateful at the uniqueness that is the GAA.

Excellent post Omar, and totally agree.
You could also add the football semi finals (including minors), all 4 of which were highly exciting games.
The GAA gets a lot of abuse from people, but not only is it the best amateur sporting organisation in the world, it is better than the vast majority of professional sporting bodies.
There is nothing about Ireland that should inspire pride in our roots more than the GAA.

Good stuff O. You could also mention the two days of QF action which served up skills, thrills, upsets and a lot of entertainment - for €45 a time! (or free with loads of Ken, food etc if you were in the Corporate area !)

Agree on the wider point Jayo the Q Finals weekend, two close Semis etc - but just felt that looking at the last week put it all in context €70 for an AI ticket = €70 for Aviva last night and god knows what people paid into to see AXL
presume it was €70 and more.
There was someone at AVIVA last night who texted into Off the ball commenting on one of the Irish front two (not Doyle)standing around posing for half an hour - not too much room to pose last Sunday !

even a bad game or hurling/football would be better than watching last nights offerings or Axl f**king Rose
