Pah! Rules ...
A few things have come to my attention on this subject. Firstly the complete climbdown on the 'handpass'. If they were reffing it the same as the first two weeks there would still be another 20 stoppages per game. They have eased up on it hugely and said nothing. Daft.
This line ball thing - what is it about? I don't ever recall it being an issue that a player entered the field when taking one. Most times he's going down the line. Another daft change for the sake of it.
Also refs are reffing soccer style. Anything that would get you a yellow in the Premier gets you one in GAA now.
Finally why don't they just get rid of the square ball? Let a fella hang around the goals if he wants - and have a smoke or two. Its hard enough to get teams to put a forward in the last third now without banning them from the small parallelogram too!

Re: Pah! Rules ...
The whole thing comes down to the referee, which I have no problem with. The rules are as stated, the players know (or should) the score, so where's your gripe? The ruling on the underhand/struck pass is clear, the sideline kick is being fouled by thickos who don't understand the basic differences between movement (sideways or forward) and the "square ball" rule is basically the same as.....Excepting loitering/swigging/smoking..
Jaysus Jayo, you're too young to remember the great Galway team of the 60's, when Tierney couldn't catch it, he'd roar "Yours Johnny"...

Only saying that handpass is being reffed competely differently since first weeks. And don't see the need for that sideline thing - never was a problem. Some pitches are tight and if a fella makes the contact outside the line his momentum will bring him onto the pitch. Stupid needless rule.

Jacko, are you building a nest or what?? Even in your swing motion you could be called for the sideline ball..It's simple really, and the more I think of it, the simpler it gets....DO NOT BROACH Transgress) the line....
You are trying your best to muddy the waters here....Rules, Fléadh Choélios, The Mooney Summer School....while all the time your'e pixxing yourself with the burning question..
Can Brogan carry us???

Na that would be a straight red, agree with you on most points.
Line ball is one of the new rules i agree with, it helps club games now. people have to keep away from the sideline now or a player will walk back on them

I would still want the square ball rule (as I'm a goalkeeper) but I think the referees dont fully understand it. A lot of the time a player comes in when the ball has just entered the square.

That makes it more understandable Jim - but its a nonsense in a stadium.
