Is Leinster football goosed?
Is Leinster Football finished?
*One All-Ireland Final appearance in the last decade. The team who got there were hammered by a vastly superior outfit.
*Delaney Cup has been annexed by a fairly useless Dublin side for years.
*Louth, Westmeath or Wicklow may well compete in the Leinster Final this year.
I could go on but t'wud be easier to count the waves then list all the problems that are manifest in the pale region at the momet
Is there anything that can be done I wonder, to restore a bit of pride to Leinster Football?

Re: Is Leinster Football finished?
Mossy lets give credit where its due- Louth were awsome yesterday they gave one of the best scoring performances of the championship only equal to Kerry in 09..I don't think we will see a better performance against a so called top 8 team..
Leinster Championship has being finished since 2002 when Dublin arrived to dominate it--It was only the dissaray that lyons caused in 03 that gave Laois and Westmeath a chance to collect the delaney cup no disrespect to these counties. But it was more down to bad management and players not having the balls to tell him to go..
I would prefer to think that Louth and Wicklow would be new challengers to Dublin and replace the old ones ie Meath and Kildare.Wexford-Laois- Westmeath have given us a few good games in the 00s so i wouldn't class them as new..
Is Leinster football finished i don't think so....Is the Leinster championship finished yes..
Mossy you could rephrase the Question to over 20 years and that would show leinster has collected 3 sams..And 7 All ireland apperances..

Credit where its due - that Louth perfomance and the score taking were top class. The game was infinitely better entertainment than many games we've seen from the 'stronger' provinces so far this season...

I hope not, otherwise Ulster football has been buried and decomposed for a few years.
In the last two years Wexford and Wicklow have beaten the best Ulster has to offer, so.......

Jayo, fair play to Louth, but the game was entertaining because Kildare were so woefully inept, and they gave Louth so much time and space to kick nice scores.

Very strange that the hard tackling Kildare of the last two seasons just disappeared ... with Grimley. Season over for Kildare ... and McGeeney.

Re: Is Leinster Football finished?
I'd say its a cast iron certainty at this stage that the likes of Monaghan and Limerick would have at least 2 or 3 provincial championships in the bag if they had been competing in Leinster over the last decade or so.. The evidence is fairly irrefutable.

Clare or Waterford would have a bundle of Connachts too....

Weak retort not based on the facts. I just think the decline in the standard in Leinster has roughly paralelled the decline of the onetime powerhouse of football that was County Meath. Coincidence?
I wonder.....

I think the essential point you need to take on board here is that when Meath football is at such a low ebb, the whole of Leinster suffers.

Bottom of the barrel Westmeath have just beaten Wicklow in the Leinster football championship. More evidence, if it were needed, of the substandard fare on offer in and around the Eastern seaboard.

Westmeath aren't a bad side. They are far worse county sides playing in maroon and white.

Ug? Are you going to go with the old ... "they're not bad, they're terrible!"?
Otherwise it just doesn't make sense.

Leinster people have as much to be proud about as any other province. I agree though, if it's going to happen in the next 3 years it'll have to be the Dubs to do it.

Re: Is Leinster Football finished?
In fairness whatever went wrong in Westmeath over the last two years seems to have been off the pitch. In 2008 Dublin were blessed to beat Westmeath by 2 points in the Leinster semi. In the 2009 League and C'ship Dublin destroyed the Lakelanders. I was at both games - there was not a huge difference in playing personnel - but their minds were elsewhere and their hearts not in it. A lot of those guys have underage All-Irelands and a Leinster senior. Whatever the factors of the last couple of years they are not as bad as results suggest and a new management team and a change of style seem ot have stopped the rot. A couple of wins and they could become a hard side to beat again - and very quickly too.

Re: Is Leinster Football finished?
To be fair to Leinster, this season they have set the championship a light. Meath played some fine football against an of sorts Offaly. Louth shocked a few people by beating Kildare in what was an excellent attacking game but poor defending [from what I seen].
Ulster has been below par this year, possibly because every county is scared of losing it.
Connacht, well haven't watched any games. Would be unfair of me to say anything.
Munster same old story.
