Louth v Kildare
Come on the wee county..Strange type of game very open hard to see who will win it if louth get 1/2 the scores they got in the first half that would be enough to see them home..Can't write of the flourbags yet they look like they can score goals....
This would be the shock of the championship if it happens...

Re: Louth v Kildare
Fantastic showing by Louth, really hope they can keep it up. 0-14 in the first half, that's great scoring in championship football, especially against the favourites.
If they can keep it tight and keep picking off their scores they should win. Their full-back line looks poor though.

Re: Louth v Kildare
Well, I think this explodes the Kieran McGeeney myth once and for all. He appeared totally clueless, and his side were the worst organised outfit i've seen in a long time. I really can't remember seeing as bad a defensive display as this. Like a lot of people thought, Paul Grimley was the man behind last year's run to the quarter finals, and I can't see them getting anwhere near that stage this year.
Louth played very well and kicked some lovely points, but Kildare were a shambles.

Re: Louth v Kildare
Louth are a team going places TC. Colm O'Rourke said it a fortnight ago and he was spot on. It'll be refreshing to see one of Louth, Westmeath and Wicklow reach a Leinster Final, and on the other side of the draw, there could be another shock in store tomorrow week.
I missed the first three-quarters of the game due to cemetary, otherwise I would have made the trip to Navan. Its a great day for the neutral but a sad one for Leinster fans as it'll give the anti-Leinster brigade a lot to shout about.

They played very well Loyal, but it was made so easy for them. Kildare's defending was shocking - miles off their men - and so many Louth scores were kicked under no pressure at all.
Fair play to Louth - they took their chances, and would be nice to see them make the final.

Re: Louth v Kildare
seen bits and pieces of the game mainly the second half, Kildare seemed to have hit the panic button very early on and were yapping to the ref at every given opportunity.
I agree with TC on the McGeeney front - he looks to have been badly exposed without his trusty right hand man.

Re: Louth v Kildare
Sure, Grimley was the mastermind behind 2002 aswell. This is why Armagh supporters are desperate to have him as manager.
Re: Louth v Kildare
Good win for Louth, they took great scores, fought for each other and responded to every call made on them.
I was surprised Fitzpatrick left Rooney on for as long as he did, he tired and lost an amount of ball in the 10 minutes before he was replaced. I'd imagine Fitz knew the levels of fitness they had in the tank and hence stuck with the starting 15.
Kildare, on the other hand, were woeful. Their backs, all 6, had nightmares. Can anyone fathom the reason for the withdrawal of O'Neill so early on??..McGeeney looked out of his depth to say the least..
Kildare, on this showing, don't look like having a long summer..

Re: Louth v Kildare
As I thought, Kildare aren't going to be up to much this year, with the expectations after last year and Grimley leaving I didn't think they'd get to the same stage, but they were absolutely shocking today. Fair play to Louth though, a well deserved victory and a very impressive score to rack up.

Kildare ran Tyrone very close last year so maybe it explodes other myths as well.
Having said that Antrim destroyed Louth in the league, despite going to sleep for long periods, so maybe we need to judge each game on its merits.

the point we tried to make P was that last year Kildare had Grimley this year they didnt, now perhaps its coincidence but that display today was far removed from the Kildare of last year - like Antrim they have taken backward steps from last year

At the risk of sounding cliched, this was a great day for football. I sat down at 4.59 to watch the Mayo game and was well entertained until I headed to the pub at 9. We Irish have a special resonance with the underdog.

Yep - some people on here have been saying about the Grimley factor and the proof appeared to be in the pudding there. Geezer looked lost .. taking off a guy who scored 1-1 from 3 balls and pitching Earley in .. he's either fit or he's not. Fair play to Louth - to score 1-22 in Champo is awesome and 0-14 in 35 mins is laudable. And a good game to watch too ...

Antrim have taken great strides FORWARD this year.
Promoted to Division 2 so MAYBE in the top 16 now, and getting closer to Tyrone.
But still not a good side, against the like of Wexford, Tyrone, Offaly and Sligo.

I see McGeeney held his hands up and says he made a big mistake in taking Padraig O'Neill off ..... ok which one of you here is Geezer. Keep reading man - you'll learn lots!
