Don Givens
Just wondering has Don Givens got the worst record in history for an International manager?

Great thread. Givens is a disgrace. We're not the most talented but he's taking the piss with the way he's managing these lads.
Lets not forget this is the man who practically ran David Connolly out of International Football. Time for Givens to sling his hook.

Re: Don Givens
Don Givens' job is bring playes through to senior level. To blame him for results at this level is to misunderstand what underage structures are all about.

Not good for the confidence of young players when you never win a match

It's about the technical ability they develop. There's a reason the more successful counties in hurling are in the process of removing competition from u14 down. At the end of the day, Ireland has a small playing pool and will only rarely be successful at underage level. That doesn't mean Don Givens isn't doing his job. Were these guys mega-successful before he got them? No they weren't.

We are not talking of under 14's here. These lads are already with clubs across the pond and I fear that any technical ability that they possessed might be lost under a useless manager who obviously has not the competence to create a competitive team.

They won't lose their technical ability in a trip home for a couple of days. The reality is the FAI need to articulate some vision for how they want Irish teams to set about their business, and that's something which can be engrained in guys as they come through the underage ranks. The absence of such a strategic vision cannot be entirely the fault of Don Givens.

Givens falls out with more underage players than he brings through. To hell with him.

Alienating young players is hardly the best way to bring them through. He needs to go.

Re: Don Givens
Ah short memories lads... Don Givens 3- USSR 0! 1974 in Dalymount. A legend. But ok - we are talking about the u21s here. I really think we have to get real The pre-eminence of the Premiership gravy train will ensure that our young lads will not get the opportunities that for instance the Arsenal Three got - changed times for our starlets. The Premiership going bankrupt is our best hope! Perhaps they should turn to cricket!
