Not to be confused with the world renowned Cavan International Song Contest this is a GT sponsored competition. Our resident band and Cavan heroes the Redneck Nuns are looking for someone to pen a song for the Championship Summer. It can be an original tune or may be written to complement an existing anthem. Entrants can chose from all genres as the RNs are very versatile and can play a wide rang of musical styles. The winning track will be recorded by the band and played extensively in Kingspan Breffni throughout the expected long summer before having some dates in Croke Park (if its good enough for U2!). The song will also be adopted as the GT anthem for following the Breffni this summer. Don't be afraid to have a go and be assured - your song will not be put forward for the Eurovision. Right I'm off to have a think ..... some Bon Jovi number appeals ....... hmmm Living on a Prayer Perhaps...

Slip inside the gates of Breffni
Don't you know you won’t find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all Cavan teams on the old TV screen
Did slowly fade away

So we start a revolution from the net
'Cause we said the Breffnis were in our head
Step outside the summertime's in bloom
Stand up inside the fine terrace
Take that look from off your face
They ain't ever gonna beat our Cavan lads.

So Sammy can’t wait, he knows it's so late since he came to Cavan
His hope is to stay, not to look back in anger
It will be now any day

Take me to the place on Jones Road
Where everyone knows, it’s the place to play.
Please just put the ball in their hands
Roar at them from the stands
As they put the opposition away

We’re gonna start the revolution from the net
'Cos we said the Breffnis were in our head
Step outside cos summertime's in bloom
Stand up inside the fine terrace
Take that look from off your face
They ain't ever gonna beat our Cavan lads.

So Sammy can’t wait, he knows it's so late since he came to Cavan
His hope is to stay, not to look back in anger
It will be now any day

It will be now any day

So Sammy can’t wait, he knows it's so late since he came to Cavan
His hope is to stay, not to look back in anger
It will be now any day

At least any day.

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much closer to croke park
Forever trusting tommy carr
and nothing else matters

Never thought id see this day
the pitch is ours, we play it our way
All we can do is just pray
and nothing else matters

Talent and pride I see in you
Every game for us something new
behind the goals for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared unless we lose
never cared cause were the blues
were the blues

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much closer to croke park
Forever trusting tommy carr
and nothing else matters

never cared unless we lose
never cared cause were the blues
were the blues

Never thought id see this day
the pitch is ours, we play it our way
All we can do is just pray
and nothing else matters

Talent and pride I see in you
Every game for us something new
behind the goals for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for stephen bray
never cared for how he'd play
never cared those who throw stones
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much closer to croke park
Forever trusting tommy carr
and nothing else matters

Whoa, whoa here lads and lasses.....As outlined by the Boxman last night his 2 trusted renditions are "The town I love so well" and "South (Sabth) of Garryowen".
The rallying call for Cavan must be of a rousing nature, not a dirge loaded with pathos, so I propose a Séan South type shot...Must open with a verse commerating fallen warriors...
"How oft in my time when my spirtis were low,
I chance upon dreams of the gallant John Joe,
Gallagher, Carolan and Stafford are gone,
Now we depend on Seanie Johnstone......

"It was on as balmy day in Spring........................
