Will Segregation at GAA Matches Ever Happen?
I thought it would never happen in the League of Ireland but it has. Would you say it is only a matter of time before GAA fans will have to be seperated.

Don't think so Clash - hope not! Sure its Ireland - you're more liable to have two lads from the one county bating the heads off each other than anything!!

Can't see this ever happening to be honest.
When we're on the subject, I remember seeing a documentary on the BBC a good while back, about cross-community relations in the north(I posted about this on HS a while ago, bit hazy on the specifics as you'll see!). Basically a part of this showed a protestant man and one of his children going to an Ulster championship game in Clones(can't remember the game but think Derry was playing), his first ever GAA match. One thing he was remarked on was how surprising it was to him that the two sets of fans sat among each other, chatting away together and having the craic, even when there were heated moments in the match. He said he followed the League of Ireland and you'd never get this at the games he'd usually go to. He also said he really enjoyed the game and would definately go to more GAA games in the future!

Mid Omn man I mind that, think it was a Down game but, he refuesed to stand for the nation anthem and all didn't he? There was also a clip of 2 catholic men goind to a 12th parade, an a man was going on about how you can tell the difference between protestants and catholics by looking at them.

You're probably right about it being a Down game Niamh, you seem to remember more about it than me anyway! Didn't see the part with the catholic men at the parade, I'd say they were made most welcome!

There were aload of Drunken Prods at it and didn't know and they tried to get them to sing Rangers songs!

can't see it ever happen, and serously hope it never happens!!! enjoy the banter too much between us and oppisition fans.was watching that tv3 program the other night and saw the carry on between bohs and rover so called supporters, to be honest they seem to have no interest at all in the football, as most of them didnt even get to see the games. nothing but scumbags

Re: Will Segregation at GAA Matches Ever Happen?
I remember when we played Fermanagh in Enniskillen a few years ago, in order to allocate the tickets they simply split the stands down the middle and then allocated a terrace to each county. The result was in essence segregation. It was also really weird to see all the colours grouped togehter,
It took away from the game IMO. There was no one to have a bit of banter with and no one shouting near you which of course motivates you to give a roar yourself.
A strange setup and thankfully not one which is necessary in the GAA.
