Dinny back in Antrim hurling
Well folks the last fort night has seen the return of Dinny Cahill to antrim hurling, he has brought with him Bob Thornhill from cork - if anyone knows anything about him could they post it here please?
The last time out dinny came close to scalping Tipp the eventual all ireland champs then was robbed against wexford who went on to play cork twice in what can only be described as the best sporting games of the last 20 years on irish soil. This was followed up by him motivating cork to win an all ireland and rip us apart in the process and then the bad campaign of 2005 which led to his resignation.
I believe we have good young players at our disposal also older ones that wouldnt play for the previous regime, Liam Watson, Johnny McIntosh, Ger Cunningham etc Dinny can gel them together and use the good minor teams that came through who knows, id say if he gets them fired up enough we could win div2 nhl even with clare and wexford, we will definitely give offaly a run for their money in leinster. Also why did westmeath not apply to play in Ulster? Would have been brilliant for them. Still thing we need the champions league style 4 groups of four sorry Jim.
What you all think?

A think the loss last year to Laois was a big blow. They should be able to give a good account of themselves this year and there should be at least one big game in them.

Lets hope Dinny sorts out their holiday arrangements a tad better than the last shower did.

Re: Dinny back in Antrim hurling
its a big commitment he has made - what sort of miles will be put up in a round trip to Antrim. You have to commend the man - i read somewhere he felt he didn't do the job justice the last time round and wasn't perhaps that well clued in on inter county management. He said he had unfinished business to attend to in Antrim. I for one take my hat of to the man - its people like him make you proud to be Irish and involved in the GAA, as for the likes of Tadgh Kennelly now thats a different proposition altogther.
Fair play to you Dinny i hope all goes well - though you'll have more politics to deal with up there than you would in the Dail or the Assembly at Storment

Dinny has been very quiet since his return, hopefully he will manage antrim like he did in his first two years quietly and assassin like.
Starting to get into the swing of things again real looking forward to the season now!

NSG could see you made it though the cold patch - no worse than Antrim in the last few years( boom boom, I know we can't talk down here)
wonder if it is a good appointment, remember a saying about not going back but best of luck to him. Rem the game in croker well, ye had a perfect goal ruled out for a square ball (Heron launched in it I think can't rem who scored it). We got the rub of the green with a "dodgy" 21 yard free which Paul Codd duly dispatched.
Still not convinced of two things
1. Champions league format
2. This great minor team ye had/have.
We learnt down here in the very bright and yes at the moment sunny SE that you can tend to over-hype teams and suffer for it afterwards.
Best of luck against Clare next year and I hope ye beat them, we have in both hurling and football in Wex park next year (one weekend after another poor planning that one=two w/ends on a trot ye lot get to grace Wexford)
See you in Div1 in 2 years time we are there next year (fingers crossed).
Westmeath were NOT allowed enter the ulster Championship

Dinny was trainer with Portumna during this years county championship. Wonder will he stay on for the AI semi or will he be too busy with Antrim?

Re: Dinny back in Antrim hurling
we not defending champs KK beat us by 6/7.
We are playing UCD though on the 25th i think!
Jim our minors are good from a couple of years ago and we had another good team 6/7 years ago, hopefully dinny can use this and teach them a new demension of hurling!!
I think the 3 teams in a groups system may work jim, this would mean the same amount of games for most teams in the category of wexford, antrim, offaly and now carlow!!

Re: Dinny back in Antrim hurling
Brian McFaul scored the goal against Wexford, he caught it just as it was going out of play at the Hill 16/Cusack junction, but it was ruled out as a square ball.
Dinny has a "friend" in the Glens these days and doesn't need to travel as much.
