World Athletics Championships
I don't see a thread on this (strange????) so I better start it. Mens 100m semis and final tonight. Think Gay will put Bolt to it, Bolt has been struggling with his start and Gay is probably the only one fast enough to take advantage. Still its a huge ask. The track is apparantly riding fast tonight as well so there's a chance we could see a record.
The heptathlon reaches its climax too. Hopefully Jessica Ennis can win that.

100m final at 8.30pm tonight I think. If you like sport, you can't miss this.
And what about Olive Loughnane who finished second in the 20k walk (becoming in the process only the fourth Irish medal winner at the WC). Unbelievable achievement. Its huge.

Re: World Athletics Championships
I know nothing about running but Bolts main rival did not look very convincing in his semi final. Is it part of his plan.

No think you're right. Gay didn't look great in his semi. Michael Johnson reckons Bolt will go for the record too. Really exciting....

Re: World Athletics Championships
I could not believe it when he false started the first time. It would have been some shock if he had of been disqualified. He must have been looking around him for the last 20m.

Re: World Athletics Championships
Tyson Gay knocked six hundreths of a second off his personal best and Bolt left him trialing in his wake. How does Bolt do that? He is the closest to superhuman I'll ever see.

Re: World Athletics Championships
Had a match there this evening so missed this, but sounds like it was unreal.
Bolt is something else, just incredible, and often looks like he's not even exerting himself!
Well done to Olive Loughnane also, great achievement.

Most amazing video ever:
Go to about five minutes. I said it yesterday, Bolt is the closest to superhuman anyone will ever see. What he is doing is not right. He has taken the 100m to a completely new level. He has taken sport to a new level.

Re: World Athletics Championships
He's incredible alright, I see he's targeting the 9.5 second mark, and it's probably only a matter of time before he breaks that. He defies logic. Also heard he's thinking of going for the 400m in the future.
200m heats start tomorrow don't they? Wonder will he end up breaking that WR in the final...

She came into the competition late on and failed with 3 attempts. Only got up as high as the bar on the 3rd attempt - first 2 made a total mess of it.

Re: World Athletics Championships
Usain Bolt is a machine, he slowed down to a jog about 3metres before the end of the 200m and still won easy. I think Crawford from USA will be his biggest competitor in this event.
Phillips Idowu although he comes across as an arrogant **** did well to get the triple jump.

I didn't know you liked Athletics?! That is very !
Yeah Crawford should do well in the 200m, think they are all racing for second though. It would be great if Hession could qualify for the final too.
Derval O'Rourke ran well in her heat too. And it was good to see Sonya Richards win the women's 400m!

Re: World Athletics Championships
I don't follow it as such but I love watching it on Tv, was watching a bit of it this evening. I used to be very good at it in fact at school, was particularly good at Long Jump and 100m, not quite as good at long distance did the 800m in 3m 18secs when I was 15 which I rates as pretty good as I think the womans record is 1min 53 sees or something. My record at the 100m is 13secs, cant mind long jump at all. God called up to the South Derry Athletics team when I was 16, went to a few trainings but didnt enjoy it.

Think the American blade Walker will win the women's 400m hurdles with he Jamican girl who won the 1st heat to come 2nd.
I watched it on BBC2 as I don't know if it was on any other channel, and I long for the Brits to get beat as the commentators bum them up to the max and I hate it.

Re: World Athletics Championships
Yeah I won a few medals at Community Games and that.
But one day there was a race to qualify for some big competition and only seven turned up for it. The first six went through. I got my tactics all wrong and guess where I came. Retired after that.
The High Jump was favourite event. Nearly won the Senior Boys or something like that on Sports Day but the pressure got to me and I finished 3rd or 4th.
You should have kept it up, you could be representing Ireland this week!

I like some of the British athletes. Was delighted to see Jess Ennis win the heptathlon. Marlon Devonish is another I like. Yeah BBC2 I think is the best place to watch, Steve Cram is a good commentator but you're right about the rest of them. Didn't see the women's 400m hurdles really so not to sure about that.
