Dublin's penalty nightmare
The England of Gaelic Football.
Looking back at the big clashes between Meath and Dublin, the latter have missed a lot of penalties.
Charlie Redmond blazed one over in the dying minutes of the 1988 Leinster Final - a goal would have levelled it.
Keith Barr dragged his shot wide when a goal would surely have guaranteed victory in the fourth game of the famous 1991 saga.
Then in 1997, Dublin reduced had 9 point half-time deficit to 3 by injury time when Paul Bealin smashed a penalty off Conor Martin's crossbar.
I wonder if they get one tomorrow who will take it and will they fare better than Redmond, Barr and Bealin?

Nothing, but a missed penalty might shut him up a bit

He did me a bit of a favour a few months ago that he didn't have to - fair play to him!

It's a worrying statistic from a Dublin point of view. Does Parouisa know when was the last time Dublin were awarded a penalty in the championship, and when they converted one? Also who is the designated penalty taker?

Good questions Loyal - and off the top of my head I can't remember a peno for us in recent times - even in the League!! We must be Wolves! I'd imagine BB would take one - or Connolly if not suspended. Will take this up with the lads tomorrow and hopefully bring something a bit more concrete back!

That's right and he missed one against Down in 1994.
Is it possible that Dublin's last penalty in championship football is Paul Bealin's corssbar effort in 1997?
Maybe they've had a few in low profile first round Leinster championship games but nothing sticks out for me in the bigger games.
