Pundit to Manager
Former Kerry All-Ireland winner Pat Spillane is believed to have let his name go forward for the vacant under-21 manager's job in his native county.
Spillane, who has earned fame since hanging up his boots as a journalist and TV pundit is reported to have let his name go forward for consideration.
The comprehensive defeat to Cork in the Munster under-21 football final earlier this month brought an end to John Kenny's reign in charge of the Kingdom.
Spillane has never managed at county level, but has a considerable amount of experience at club level. His outspoken views on Gaelic football have been a major draw for RTE over the past number of years.
However, Spillane is expected to face stiff competition from the likes of former player and senior selector Eamon Fitzmaurice, ex-under-21 selector Jerome Conway and former Kerry and Limerick manager Mickey Ned O'Sullivan.
This could be interesting to see how he copes on the other side..

Re: Pundit to Manager
it will be interesting - see if he practices what he preaches to the rest of us every chance he gets. In many ways all his gobbing of in the press and on the Sunday game has but him under a lot of pressure for any managerial job he takes as there will be any amount of people waiting on him to trip up.
That said i say fair play to him at least he has the balls to put his neck on the line.

Pat's neck would be quite comfortable under a kango hammer... The jolly as Kerry U-21 manager runs from Mar/May at most and Pat clearly needs a pocket filler before the main action starts...
Put the following in the correct order: Arxe, Tight, As, Ducks, A..........

Re: Pundit to Manager
Surely Kerry County board won't want all the extra pressure and media focus on their U21s that would come with the appointment of Spillane?

Shure there's no pressure on them, they were beaten by Cork by 20 points or thereabouts this year. The curve can only go up.
Dolly Healy-Rae could get it yet.
