Well done to Cavan. Another year of disappointment at U-21 level for Tyrone, although getting 5 games was a positive in terms of trying to find some senior players.

Re: All-Ireland U21 Championship 2011
Just in the door. Mighty performance from the lads, very little between the teams and Cavan got the rub of the green tonight. They got the goal in the first seconds and never lost the lead. Gearoid got man of the match and lifted the cup, delighted for the lad, he's lost 3 Finals in the past year and deserves something (forgot the manager's name in the speech but we'll forgive that.. ) Tyrone couldn't handle him at midfield and had to resort to short kick outs which did them no favours. Packie Leddy and Niall Smith were excellent too and Jack Brady had a great second half.
This win means a lot to Cavan football, we had huge support there tonight, great to see. Hard luck to Tyrone, some fantastic footballers in that side, Ronan O'Neill is class to watch.
Lets hope they can settle themselves before Saturday and do themselves justice in the Semi despite the short length between games. Up Cavan!

it was disappointing TC but without making any excuses we have been hampered with injuries to some key players - McNabb Teague Mossey to name but a few would all be key men in that team. Whats worrying though is we seemed to rely quite a bit on O'Neill and McCullagh, 2 of last years minor team for scores where the likes of Coney and co should have been chipping in a bit more.

I would also like to congratulate Cavan on their deserved victory tonight. I do feel it is a bit harsh that they have to play their game on Saturday evening though. Cavan won the midfield battle tonight McKiernan and Leddy were very strong, don't think even Big Ruari would have made much difference in there to be perfectly honest.
From a Tyrone point of vierw it was good to see the under 21's in action in all five games including two periods of extra time - Some good talent coming through at this level especially from the likes of Pete Harte, Coney and O'Neill. I was also impressed with our full back McNamee, Martins' nephew Niall Sludden and young Shea McGuigan who I felt was substituted far too early this evening.
Good Luck to Cavan.

There is surely a bit of value in Wexford at 6/4 to beat Cavan, given that Cavan will surely be a bit leg weary

Most definitely.. And they will be very weary, it was an extremely fast paced physical game. It's a serious shame it is being played so soon, I'd be very hopeful if they had a week break at least but 3 days?? Massive disadvantage.

in effect Cavan are being punished for something beyond their control - they had no control over the replays between Tyrone and Down and yet the are suffering - hardly fair

Re: All-Ireland U21 Championship 2011
True Boc, and the other strange thing is that the Final isn't until the 30th?! Madness by officials who put Ulster at a huge disadvantage in what is a fantastic grade of football. It also isn't fair on Wexford, they don't want to beat Cavan and have the 3 day turnaround quoted to them taking the shine off their making it to the final (If it plays out that way)

Leg weary? at U21 level?
The like of Brian Corcoran played about 6 games every week when he was at that age, top level games at that.
idiots like me played about 4 games a week, but would have played a kick around on the other nights.
Beginning to sound a bit like those poor premiership players who sometimes have to play twice a week.
Cavan V Cork final.

Re: All-Ireland U21 Championship 2011
It is tough on Cavan alright, I am sure they would have preferred another week and been able to celebrate their first title properly....
Funnily enough if Tyrone had of won I would have fancied them to beat Wexford for the simple fact that Wexford psychologically would have had a bit of hesitancy/fear of Tyrone but they will more than fancy their chances against Cavan....

Re: All-Ireland U21 Championship 2011
Cavan U21 selector Ronan Carolan has described as "scandalous, disgraceful and illogical" the decision to schedule the All-Ireland semi-final against Wexford for this weekend - three days after the county's Ulster final triumph.
Cavan ended a 15-year wait for a provincial U21 crown with a fine victory over Tyrone at Brewster Park on Wednesday night.
Any celebrations had to be tempered by the fact that the Breffni lads must clean the gear and get back onto the field for Saturday evening's meeting with Wexford at Parnell Park (7pm).
And the county's former senior star Carolan believes the scheduling - which asks Cavan to play twice in 72 hours following a break of three weeks - places the Ulster champions at a distinct disadvantage.
He told the Irish Examiner, "It is absolutely scandalous, and it is a big, big issue. We talk about player welfare, player burn-out, we talk about looking after our players. This is not looking after players.
"We could play this game on Saturday week, we could play this game on Sunday week, and I gather Wexford as well would wish to play this game in ten days' time.
"We would then have a week to the All-Ireland final, whether Cavan or Wexford win it. It is illogical to ask Cavan to play [on] Saturday. Seriously, I would be very, very concerned for basic player welfare.
"We broached that subject a few days ago, Tyrone, Cavan and Wexford. To their credit, they have agreed, but unfortunately, the CCCC, in their eternal wisdom, have decided to put an All-Ireland semi-final three days after a provincial final.
"You would have to think that they do not really understand the basic effort involved in what was a top class game between two very fine teams, fine young men that are the future of the GAA. This is not the way to treat them.
"We're coming off the field, a lot of our players are absolutely fatigued, and we're expected to play another game in three days' time. This is the biggest achievement for many of these players to date, and it's totally and utterly unfair. In fact, it's absolutely disgraceful that they're expected to play again so soon."
Carolan telling it like it is.. This isn't Cavan's first U-21 title Puke?
