Hello, it is fairtrade week in our school and I was told to research child labour in Ireland a while ago, I tried typing it into google and nothing came up. Could anyone give me any facts please???

Re: Help!
Have you tried Barnardos, the ISPCC, the Department of Health & Children or the Office of the Minister for Children?
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) have been involved in fair trade.

Re: Help!
I mean Irish people getting treated with slave labour, Would the work houses during the famine be one?

Re: Help!
There are several cases of foreign asylum seekers being exploited in Ireland in recent years.. Poor pay and conditions etc. Try googling some key words on that and you might get something.

Re: Help!
I think your teacher wants to know about child labour exploitation in Ireland.
Most of it would have been in the cities during the industrial revolutioin, like anywhere else.
And it would have lasted right up until middle of the 20th century, encouraged by the church but your teacher may not want to hear that.

there is a nice one, teacher will love it.
Dublin would have been even worse, if not as industrial as belfast.

Re: Help!
Check out the Scouting Associations
Surely Bob a Job was one of the worst examples of abusing child labour that this country has ever seen.
Wasn't in the scouts myself but remember a neighbour of mine was in it.
I used to get 20p off the auld fell to rake up the grass after he cut it - Used to be able to sub contract it to the scouts for 5p.
Can remember the neighbour having to help pick spuds for half a day for 5p.
