The Cheltenham Festival 2013.
The long uphill finish on this greatest of national hunt racecourses has seen the demise of many hotly fancied contenders and may be contextualised here in the failure of racings foremost contributors to this forum ie. L2TR and Mossbags to last the pace.
Form is temporary, class is permanent and so off we go again.
I'm going for Hurricane Fly in the C/H, Quevega in the Mare's Hurdle and Sir Des Champs in the Gold Cup.
Currently 2/1, 8/15 and 4/1 yields 22/1.

Girl beside me in work has landed the first 3 on a 4-race accumulator. She's waiting on Long Run for a £748 return on a £1 bet. She had no idea how much she'd win until I informed her - she's now very nervous!

It was all or nothing. Different mood in the office now as opposed to 10 minutes ago!

Damn - had nothing backed so was rooting for her!
I did a similar bet - back in 1984 (I think) as a callow youth who was broke after a bad Festival! (I think in those days the meeting finished on Gold Cup day which was a Thursday). I had 4 up (it was £1 ew accum) and had about 2k riding on Mister something (Donovan maybe!) trained by Eddie O'Grady ... he was 5/1 .. and came in 5th ... I think Mossy Cones was one of my winners .. and maybe Bobsline!

Yeah, there's something poetic about the £1 bet that delivers big. The rags to riches element. Accumulators can be heartbreakers though.
Anyway, thank God the jump season is almost over, and we can finally get a look at some proper horses!

That was a strange end to the previous race - poor girl - almost Devon Loch-ish!
I got the 4/1 with my first bet today and had 2 more nibbles - one going next race. I won a pint from PP in the work local for my Irish winner .... but am off it for Lent .. bah!

Sir Des Champs didn't benefit from AP's riding style I felt and didn't have the juice in the tank when needed. Bob's Worth a worthy GC winner and game as he ran, I feel Long Run's big occasion days are behind him. But at 8, who can tell.
JT McN's spinal cord is confirmed intact, severe damage to vertebre though. Hopefully he'll walk out of it....
In other news, Forumite in exile Mossbags has had a blinding festival, napping and backing winners all over the place. He remains "his usual meek and introverted" self, crediting his selections to candlelight vigils and a series of novenas, although the old seems to attach to most of his posts, particularly as evening draws in....
