sorry Boc he IS in Cavan. Very Happy

sorry RKF I meant Kildare, apologies.

I am not trying to justify anything on behalf of the player but i suppose i am surprised at the reaction there has been to the whole saga, especially the argument that it goes against the ethos of the GAA. And thats not a swipe at those people either, he is not the first to transfer from one county to another.

I cant remember the circumstances regarding the move of Tompkins and Fahy to Cork but one could argue that they moved to Cork in search of success as they were unlikely to find it with Kildare.

A certain James McCartan moved clubs too in his time and despite what people say as the reasons behind the move we all know what was behind it..................

The other issue that hasnt been touched on is that if Seanie has his head up his hole which appears to be the case and he is doesnt seem to be one for the hard slog why on earth is he choosing to transfer to a county managed by Kieran McGeeney??? He is unlikely to get much sympathy there and the hard work might only be starting if the transfer is approved. Its a move which has the potential to backfire spectacularly for both parties.

That is certainly possible Boc, but it could also be that Seanie, surrounded by a team, structure and media attention that he deems worthy of his presence, may decide to put in a lot more effort than in the past. We've all seen county stars who do nothing but ponce about with the club, quite simply because the are only motivated by the big days and the big crowds. Seanie could be similar.

Joining Kildare for success? An O'Byrne Cup medal or two? Because that's all Geezer has delivered.

thats a fair point TC - the flip side being that Seanie perhaps knew how 'professional' the structures and training were in other counties and felt that Cavan were lagging behind somewhat and was perhaps getting frustrated with the whole thing a la Roy Keane in Saipan.........

Not sure you believe that Boc, and guessing you are playing Devil's Advocate but, certainly in Seanie's case, I wouldn't really buy that argument.

Professionalism begins with yourself, and applying yourself as best you can at all times, irrespective of whether or not things beyond your control are exactly as you would like them.

i dont believe it at all TC and it was more a stab at being Devils Advocate - you just wonder what goes on in a guys head though, surely pulling on the jersey of another county cant really give you the same sense of pride or the same buzz as pulling on the jersey of your own county.

Kieran McGeeney in the papers today complaining about Johnston getting a raw deal in this whole saga.

McGeeney is letting himself down very badly in all this and, more importantly, letting Kildare down too. The man is now in his 5th year and has yet to win a trophy - a whiff of desperation, I'd say.

Was Johnston told that he wasn't wanted by Cavan management?

What's that got to do with it??? So any guy who is told he isn't wanted by their own county can create an address 100 miles away from where they live and work just to play for another county???

I would not want to see the transfer go through myself and nobody should be the exception. Dosen't matter if it is 10 miles or a 100 miles away. But he is a talented player, he has another 4-5 years left at intercounty level and it would be a shame for him no to play and for us not to see him play.

The great Maurice Fitz didn't always find favour with Kerry management so we were robbed of seeing his talent - c'est la vie. Cavan scored 4-10 without him. Maybe he should ask himself why he finds himself in this position instead of trying to think we are all stupid .....

So it looks like he'll go to the DRA.. On whose buck is that done I wonder?
I hope this doesn't go through mainly because if he goes and plays well for Kildare, Andrews' opponents will paint it as a victory for themselves.

Of course, but I think listening to the select few arxeholes that would use it as a stick to beat Andrews with would annoy me more in the short term! Evil or Very Mad

couldnt agree more Parouisa, pull your socks up knuckle down to a bit of hard work which your going to have to do at Kildare anyway and the Cavan management team will be knocking your door down to get you back on the panel
