Never write off the Aussies!

Australia 268 and 119 for 3 (33.0 overs)
England (1st Innings) - 187 all out.

And only 2 days gone - gonna be really interesting (no, really!) over the next 2 days - can't see it going 5 days!

Should certainly be a result alright - I'd forecast Aussies all out at about 300 odd before tea
- leaving England 380 or so and still 2 1/3 days left.

The Siddle/Hilfensomething partnership for the 10th wicket looks valuable now

I have one of those digi things on top of the TV and forget it means you have more chammels.

NO-ONE told me highlights were on TV 3.

Just finished watching it and Johnson had a great day.

But one great half hour may not be enough to win a series, and maybe not this game.

A lot depends on Hussey today/tonight.

Gosh, was I right .....again. Hussey does the business.

I have a digibox recorder thing I bought recently, which has the free channels and ou just hit one button to record a programme or series.

It also pauses the TV, like Sky Plus.

Oops, that is ITV 3, wrong ......again.

I don't have any Irish channels as the aerial rotted and it costs a fortune for a new one.

And her indoors just got a kitchen extension and does not want an outside aerial blowing down and crashing through the skylight.

Strangest series I have ever seen. England batter Aussies in 2nd Test and are arrogantly predicting retention of the Ashes before Xmas when the Aussies batter them in the 3rd Test. Melbourne for 4th Test and hosts out for ... 98!!! Not even a century for the XI!!! England now 219-2 and if they don't win this then they may give it up altogether! A win will see them 2-1 up (one draw) with one to play and so retention of the Ashes. But a mad series! It'd be like Man Utd beating Newcastle 6-1 at OT and then losing 5-0 at St James .... scratch

Mad to think that Australia were out for 98 in just 42.5 overs!!! Now England are 226-2 in just 76.0 overs - and its only lunch on Day 2!!!! Declare on 350 I reckon!

Opening post on BBCs live text service (from BBC guy)

2257 Commentary
Hello, thought you might be here. On the menu today: Kangaroo stew, slowly cooked to the point of disintegration over the past month, good ol' British beef, lovingly prepared over the past two years followed by a plate of sweet revenge, best served cold. Welcome to the fourth day of the fourth Test in Melbourne, we're on the cusp of something very special here.

Would make you wish that it pissed rain for two days wouldn't it. Such jingoistic assholes .....

Well its nearly done and dusted but if you'd like to read some puke inducing jingoistic, triumphalist drivel click on the link here - and its the BBC! ....

England - no class in defeat though they are well used to it (in everything) and absolutely no class (or graciousness) in victory ...

Re: The Ashes - can we do it?

Ive passively followed cricket for past two and a half decades or so and like them or loath the Australian test team for long periods in that era where the cream of the crop earmarked most by a tenacious competitive spirit.

Over this era come and gone are Border, Waugh x2, Gilchrest, Slater, langer, Ponting, warne, Gillespie, Lee, Hayden, Taylor and probably my favourite of all Glen McGrath who could mop up up a tail in the time you'd boil a kettle.

For anyone who watched Australia fail to bowl out two tail Enders and then collapse for a ton odd all out in perfect batting conditions with run outs, bowled to full tosses, top order batsmen skying shots you would not see fron a no.11 in a 20/20 the decline is one of the most dramatic I've seen in any sport.

Shocking indeed, and for anyone who watched the way they played the game for the last 20 years, or even anyone who has experienced the supporters of an Australian team at any sporting event, their current state of chaos is truly a wonderful sight.

They'll be back at some point, but Botham's 10-0 prediction for this year's 'Back-to-back' Ashes series could well be a possibility.

Also i wouldn't say the aussie supporters are any worse than a lot of other nations, they happened to be better at a lot more sports tgan a lot of other nations and their arrogance was entirely justified. We would be the same if we were any good at anything other than GAA!

They're arrogant even when they aren't good, and are a dirty shower when things don't go their own way (e.g. every International Rule series that they've ever lost!)

Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh, Curtley Ambrose, Waquar Younis, Glen McGrath, shaqtar
G

Mitchell Johnson - Is there a better site in Sport than watching a pure raw fast bowler ripping the heart out of an over-hyped English team with stumps flying like skittles.

And on this occasion on a nothing wicket
