NFL - What has been asked of your county?

Post  GAA-Fan on Sun Apr 11, 2010 7:08 pm

So now that all games have been played, what questions have been asked of your county team?

Have we peaked too soon or can we continue to build on the league and make a push for Ulster in the championship? I remember Carr started promisingly with Down as well, so lets hope history doesn't repeat itself!

I am more confused than I was 7 games ago but one thing is sure - Bernard Brogan is one helluva footballer. I posted a couple of years ago that he would be a much better player than Alan - and he's only a child!

he was on fire today JC a top quality forward and equally impressive of his left or right - mind you we give him enough room today to display the full repertoire of skills he has - i'd have fancied myself to get 4-5 points of the Tyrone defence today No No No No

Im looking forward to the Armagh vs Down rematch.

Armagh havent really been asked anymore questions they just haven't answered the questions in previous years...this year could be different.

the ball he was getting today was top drawer - why we didnt deploy a man to act as sweeper is beyond me

bocerty without using a sweeper- you need to have a speed merchant on brogan playing in front of him....I thought the tyrone team today was weak for a team that had to win to stay up

Last year it was fitness that ruined our season especially noticeable when the game went into extra time against Monaghan.

Going by match reports from fans players didn't stop running today, not the peak of summer yet but was a warm day and they just kept going.

Although it is only the league consistency is still a bit off but we are progressing.

Not playing defensive football as they did under McDonnell and Armagh are no racking up big scored. Defence is looking good restricted both Donegal and Tipperary in the past few weeks.

Bernard can't carry us on this own. Teams will double up on him so its vital we get another couple of scoring forwards to capitalise on this. No matter how well he is marked his intelligence, speed and the right ball will see him score at least 5 points per game.

Jayo when you have a player like bernard- Make space and give him the ball he will do the rest.....

We will have at least 5 scoring forwards come the Wexford game...

We have a few lads alright - old and new - consistency needed though. Can't lean too heavily on BB - if he picks up an injury or sumtin ... But he's a fabulous player to watch.

What was asked of us was whether we could stay up or not, and thankfully we could(by the smallest of margins). And also what was asked was could we find new players. As opposed to a few years ago, where we finished bottom having played our strongest team every game, we managed to stay in Division 1 having blooded many new young players and having been without alot of our regulars for much of the campaign.

I'd say we've found 5-6 lads who can be a real option in championship football with 3 or 4 of those who will be pushing for a starting spot against more experienced lads, it's that kind of competition and depth we've been badly lacking in recent years so the more players we find the better. We've been without Eoin Lennon and Gary McQuaid for the whole campaign, Damien Freeman only just came back for the Kerry game while JP & Dessie Mone and Rory Woods only played part of the league due to injury. So I'd be fairly happy with the outcome of the league for us having given the young lads valuable experience in big games against the top teams, with the old heads still to return/returning.

Cavan wanted to develop some level of consistency and be in with a shot of promotion. 3 wins on the bounce, We blooded new players and realised that we can rack up some good scores without our scorer in Chief. Disappointing finish to the Sligo game robbed us of a realistic promotion chance and apparently we were dire today but still won thankfully so things not looking too bad. We should be looking at the second round of the championship at least with a possible few wins in the qualifiers given a favourable draw.

All of this was made possible by a solid effort from the GT supporters group.. Give yourselves a round of applause people!
