Re: Katie Taylor - stick on gold?
Fantastic stuff from Katie - definitely Ireland's ever sportswoman - incl Maeve Kyle.

All very un-lady-like if you ask me.
No class or sophistication about the women who participate in these sports, Boxing, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rugby, etc.

She'd have been quite at home on Meath teams of the not too distant past.

Katie also got Best Boxer of the Tournament for the second time in a row .... not deemed worthy of mention on RTE ....

And now for the second time in 3 years Ms Taylor is the World Female Boxer of the Year. Great achievement from a great athlete. Roll on London!

Beaten in Bulgaria today, albeit controversially according to RTE reports.
I think Irish sports enthusiasts forming conjectures about her chances in London are ignoring how hard it is to stay at the top of any sport, even women's boxing! Katie Taylor has been winning gold medals for 5/6 years now and it's not going to be any surprise if her dominant streak abates pre-2012. Wasn't she nearly beat at the semi-final stage of the competition that this thread was started for as well?
She's not, as has often been wrote, a cert for a gold in London in my opinion. Even if my knowledge of the sport is quite limited.

Re: Katie Taylor - stick on gold?
She was beaten by a Bulgarian - in Bulgaria. A girl she beat 10-1 last year. The Bulgarian apologised to Taylor after the fight. Katie Taylor scoring 1 point in four rounds? I don't think so.
Her corner said - "Katie’s performance, as far as we’re concerned, was top class,” said Ryan yesterday. “It was probably the best performance out of three contests she had out here. At the end of the day, the referee in the ring raised Katie’s hand without any hesitation whatsoever and the announcer announced Katie the winner. And we lost 5-1."

Worse still, it's amateur foxy boxing (without any foxes). As unappealing as it is pointless.

Great performance by a class and dedicated athlete. Rarely do we produce a world class athlete but Katie Taylor is the real deal.
